It was an informative blog. The Elio Director of Safety filled up in on what exactly was the Elio Safety System. The Elio will have brakes, Airbags, Stability Control, Traction Control, ABS, a Unibody and Seat Belts. I would like to let Elio know that headlights and tail lights need to be part of this safety system.

I'll be more than happy if I get mine with just brakes and seat belts NEXT year! :D

Head, tail, indicator lights. Good tires and brakes. Mirrors and windows with good field of vision. Etc.
These are road safety items.
I think the blog was pointing out that the Elio will be like a modern car, as far as occupant safety is concerned.

"The Elio won’t be the largest vehicle on the road, but it is engineered to the highest safety standards."
"these features make sure that you can cruise down the road just like a four-wheel vehicle."

I’d like to see the Elio’s shell and drive train racing around a test track breaking in the IAV engine, providing there is a fully tested IAV engine, with a real occupant/driver, to heck with safety. Documentation of real performance and handling numbers, after nearly a decade of following these guys marketing what it WOULD be like cruising down the road, seems like a realistic expectation.

I'd like to find a hundred dollar bill on the street.
You will have a better chance than Rick.

Their lack of transparency about the engine is quite telling. I think that it needs a lot more work.

Good point. Let's play Match Game and I'm Gene Rayburn.

If the engine was completely done and was all they expected it to be, we'd be sick of hearing about it by now.
Plus the engine is not part of their safety system. If it was then it wouldn't be like the Porsche GT3 that was breaking rod bolts, creating a hole in the case and then catching on fire. Same for the early BMW e46 BMWM3's. Then there was the Fiero, that the engine was not part of their safety system because the Iron duke only held 3 quarts and burned oil quickly, thus kicked a rod out of the engine block, sprayed oil on the exhaust and this the caught on fire. Hopefully, the Elio engine will be part of that safety system because the three examples I gave were from a basic car in the 80's to a supercar just a few short years ago. Last thing we want is for an Elio to be like a Porsche GT3 or BMW M3.

An Attractive Option For…
February 16, 2018

Happy Friday Elio’ers! We hope you had a productive work week and gearing up for a 3-day weekend. We’ll still be working on Monday, but we hope that those of you that can stay home from work or school enjoy the day!

At least once a day, we are asked what kind of people will buy the Elio. The short answer, of course, is everybody. The longer answer is that we think the Elio will appeal to all kinds of segments, like commuters, environmentalists, people that like to save money and folks that like to put America first. Another segment that we believe will be attracted to the Elio can be often overlooked: first-time drivers and teenagers.

The teenage demographic is interesting to us on many fronts. First, teenagers tend to drive new trends and significantly change industries. Also, on a personal level, many on the Elio team have children that are in their teens and about to become drivers. While this can be stressful for parents, we think that the Elio is an ideal vehicle for teenagers for teenagers and first-time drivers.

Price

Remember your first car? If you were like most of us, you considered yourself incredibly lucky if you had the chance to drive mom’s old beat up clunker. If mom needed her jalopy, you had to save up and buy a used car. If you’re a teenager today, you’ll need a pretty big piggy bank, because the average used car now costs about $19,000.When you also factor in gas savings, our low price is no doubt very attractive to both teenagers and their parents.

Safety

While driving for the first time is a thrill for teenagers, it’s absolutely terrifying for everyone else, especially parents. The Elio comes standard with the Elio Safety Management System (ESMS,) which includes three airbags, seatbelts, anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control, and a steel roll cage. Eliminating distractions is also essential for first-time drivers. In some states, new drivers are not allowed to have a passenger under 18 for the first 6 months. Our front-to-back configuration easily eliminates the distractions of a passenger.

Reliability

If like many of us, you had an ancient clunker as your first car, you probably spent quite a bit of time on the side of the road waiting for a jump start or a tow. These clunkers could also be pretty hard on your wallet during multiple trips to the mechanic. Not only is the Elio less expensive than the average used car, it is also a brand new vehicle and comes with a standard 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. In the Elio, teenagers will have to come up with a better excuse for being late than “my car wouldn’t start.”

Thanks for your support and have a spectacular weekend!
