Machining of Individual Components Complete, Engine Prototype Testing Next
In part one of this series on Elio engine development we discussed the need to develop a new engine from the ground up. As we dove deeper into the vehicle’s design, it was clear the Geo Metro engine upon which we hoped to base our design would not provide the right balance of power and fuel economy. Our engine development partner, IAV, went back to the drawing board and was able to configure a new engine design, while sticking to one of Elio Motors basic tenets for the company – use existing technology, but package it in a way that still meets the company’s performance and fuel efficiency targets. Even though the company is using tried and true technology, we still needed to ensure that each individual component is engineered and machined to rigorous specifications. Each component must be tested and validated individually, then packaged together as one working prototype.

None of this can be done using mass production techniques, so it is one of the more meticulous portions of the vehicle development process. It is also one of the most important portions of the vehicle development process, as the engine is one of the keys to meeting our fuel efficiency and performance criteria. Ultimately, how this engine performs is going to be a crucial element driving our customer satisfaction. Therefore, due diligence and proper development are essential to a successful engine program launch.

I REALLY hope it happens

I live on a fixed budget

S3 kits.JPG

electricity is 52 cents per KW so even an EV is not cost effective (without solar panels and THOSE are not free )

gasoline is $5.00 per gallon

barge costs are $20. for a "motorcycle" and $50.00 for a car

bu he REAL REASON ..this will be

FUN !!

i
think for MOST people unless you are in the market for a new vehicle spending $6800.

PLUS TAX

PLUS REGISTRATION and title fees

PLUS SHIPPING

plus PREP

TOTAL cost in your driveway
might approach $10,000. ( BE HONEST !!)

but the FUN FACTOR !!

when I drove my Sparrow around Vermont or Florida

when I drive other three wheelers here on Island

it just makes you

SMILE !

84 MPG IS important !

BUT …

HONESTLY ….

especially as we are going thru a CRASH in oil prices (no one has even mentioned that ??)

for anyone who rides a motorcycle, do you REALLY care about mileage ??

your ass makes the decisions when to take a break, and so long as there is a gas station does it REALLY MATTER ?????

Honestly ?

i know my Yamaha Tw200 gets 75 mpg because it only holds 1.2 gallons so I know I need gas every 100 miles !

that is about $5.00 every two weeks …

:D

i worry more that the station has a $10.00 MINIMUM, so I must have CASH (not debit card)

Island Car !! $50.00 on the ferry to go shopping !!

no A/C !!!
no spare tire
no roof
no radio

Elio will be a BIG IMPROVEMENT !
only $20.00 to go shopping !

I have absolutely NO DOUBT THIS VEHICLE WILL BE PRODUCED !

Period. NO DOUBT !

i put down my money and have not regretted it for one second ! NOT ONE SECOND !

EZ, weren't you the one that originally posted on Monday the "SCAM ALERT" post that ended up getting moved here? Seems perhaps you are not being sincere about your doubts me thinks....

"the more I read the same repeated rehashed regurgitated generic blah blah blah about the engine with the same photos again and again

the more my "scam alert" goes off ….

...

just my gut feelings on a Monday Morning …"

another release with little to no new info .... a release in which the info lags behind prior info that the motor has been assembled, spun, and is being torn down for testing ....I can't help but wonder if Nov 15 with come and go without it getting hooked up to the dyno

Honestly how the vehicle becomes a reality has NOTHING to do with each one of us, we are JUST the consumer. These "blogs" give us a feeling we are somehow involved, but the truth is we are NOT !

it WOULD BE NICE …

if once a week Paul Elio took 30 minutes to actually post something , his OWN WORDS, telling the 35,000 people who have put down their hard earned Money on this dream ! without those 35,000 deposits there would be absolutely NOTHING !!

just a thought …

in todays world of twitter, etc it is SOOO easy to do that !

he has 35,000 potential sales=persons who can be telling MILLIONS of people about this vehicle !

not just some generic "blah blah blah " on the Elio Forum, but honest REAL COMMUNICATION !

as delays continue to mount now, more than ever, communication from the "Chief" could really help to keep the buzz going !

just my opinion ...

looks like your waiting to pick your car color before you finish your tat??

“Founder Paul Elio told Red River Radio that 25 prototypes are under construction in Detroit as the company enters into the product testing phase. “http://redriverradio.org/post/elio-m...e-says-founder

  • Only ONE prototype, the P4 has been produced since then.....

If you go back and review Mr Elio's public statements & interviews over the last 2 years...he makes numerous R&D claims that are false & misleading...this is just an example of one his many false statements...
