Should Apple conclude that
an EV is a viable business
segment for them, I have no
doubt they can do it. But not
for $6,800. Historically Apple
is a high end price point &
not likely to seriously impact
EM in the near term..... :)
I agree, the Apple EV price point won't impact Elio sales. The target MSRP, MPGe, Safety Rating, and where it's built will be an interesting read. I suspect it won't be 1/2 a car in design, engineering or cost and will follow the Elio direct to consumer sales model and perhaps provide their own warranty work and servicing network. Sales and service is a positive.

People that don't care for the Apple brand, the car, or the price won't buy it. There is market share for all the current concepts. I look forward to anyone of them finally getting to market.

Apple has hired 600 people to work on the project (Titan) and have $60 Billion Cash Reserve. If they say 2019 it may be very doable.

that's 600 more people, for a total car team of 1800

most EVs by 2019 will be over 100 miles/charge, which is more than enough for daily around-town.

Apple will be, as usual, not going for the low-price segment.

Apple talking to CA officials about autonomous/self-driving

Nobody knows. Apple doesn't even know if it's actually going to make the thing. But:

Range of Apple EV? Range of Elio 640 miles. No comparison.
Cost of Apple EV? Unknown, but when did Apple ever make ANYTHING for the low end of a market. Elio-- $6800 to 7000. Plus options.
Safety? Unknown for Apple. Prelim design photos look like there's way too much glass, too high up, for safety, but who know. Elio: 5-star or equivalent crash rating.
Availability? Good question for Apple. Maybe 2018? Elio: better not be 2018!

Don't think they really are after the same markets, so no impact to speak of.

Hmm... an Apple product... It'll be twice expensive as all the other cars out here. It'll be well made of course. All the Apple zombies will drool over it. In about 3 or 4 years after the first one comes out, they'll come out with a revolutionary new model that includes wheels and a wind shield. Despite the fact that all other cars have already had wheels and windshields, it'll be so wonderful when Apple finally comes out with it. You'll have to get your electricity only from Apple branded outlets and if you need a plug, it'll be separate and cost $20,599 and still will only connect to Apple outlets.

I can't wait to wait in line for one!

Apple Ev will not hurt Elio at all very different buyers. If Apple did make a car it would cost more than a Tesla. Tesla will have still have the lion share of Ev cars.

I'm an Apple user. For me to upgrade my system would take not only a new Mac, but a couple of thousand bucks in peripherals. that's because Apple keeps going for non-standard stuff, some of which catches on, like Thunderbolt, but some of which does not. Also, outboard storage is now requisite. I use several terabytes, and do not want to put it all on the cloud ... which is what Apple wants you to do. So I'm between a rock and a hard place, even leaving money aside. And my Mac is about 6 years old, is out of upgrade room, and is showing signs of hardware faults. I'll buy a lottery ticket late today!
