Why? The version I linked to was NOT a hybrid. The later, production version of the XL1 IS a hybrid. Hmmmm.... not sure I can spell it out any clearer than that .......
Gas only, this is not a hybrid. Selling price is estimated at $600. Unfortunately, it looks like it'll only be sold in Germany and Austria.
The point is .... if VW can produce a small vehicle similar to the Elio and net 258mpg  why is Elio having problems attaining 84?
And - not...
How 'bout this VW?

If they can attain 258mpg, why is there a problem netting 84?? I may have to jump ship .....
It should be named the "Zalinski" because "I make car parts for the American working man, 'cause that's what I am..." or slightly modified "I make cars for the American working man, 'cause that's what I am ...."
They've said the engine is a detuned version, so it must have had an original tune that yielded more power. So just use the original tune as the 'sport' mode.
The only problem with simply cutting the top off is the total loss of structural rigidity. If you've ever compared factory convertible and non-convertible versions of the same model, the chassis is very beefed up on the convertible model to account for the loss of roof-provided rigidity.
Not really egalitarian: "equal access to resources" is not the same as "equal cost of service".
Equal cost of shipping where shorter shipping distances subsidize longer shipping distances is more a form of socialism or welfare (redistribution of wealth).
Colorado requires a front plate ..... I think the only vehicle I have with one is the motorhome. I do have a 'Ford Motorsport' plate on the front of the '64 Falcon 'vert, but I don't think that counts as a 'plate'.
So following suit, the Elio won't have a front plate either. ;)
I never mentioned weight or size, only that it would be a better design yielding virtually no tongue weight.
Do you have transmission data to back up this claim, or simply talking out your .....
1. The bottom line here is if you want to tow, load, or carry a ton of crap; buy a vehicle that is designed to tow and carry a ton of crap.
2. The Elio is primarily designed for single occupant COMMUTING.
3. If you need to tow or carry a ton of crap on your commute, see #1.
Why worry about the EPA. Motorcycles aren't held to the same standards as cars are.
If it were offered, and would yield even better fuel economy, I'd opt for it.
