There's a guy I see at the bar once in a while. He's 68 and originally from Scotland. The company he worked for got bought out and at 64 he took his retirement and walked away. For two years all he did was fix up the house and then when it was done, he didn't know what to do. So he built a Cobra...
We had this same conversation at a friends house over labor day weekend. He was claiming ho cheap his first new car was and how expensive the one he currently bought. His first new car was a 1980 Chevette. I looked up what it cost and it was $4600. He claimed it was only a couple of grand but I...
I seriously doubt that Elio would have ever been able to pull off a deal with a Chinese company to build the car. It was either going to have to be here or nowhere. Don't fall into the trap of thinking we don't make things in the US.
Where I used to work back in the early 80's there was another business in the parking lot that had three trash trucks. They had their own pile of stuff they would keep before they went to the dump. I acquired about 10 fans (the ones that were made from the 20 thru the 50's). Every one just...
Interesting part is that I had two Porsche 928's. The second one was a 4 valve motor. The cams, water pump and oil pump all ran off of a single belt. It was replaced once and not that hard to do. My BMW Z4 had a single double row chain with two guide rails. It just ran the two cams and that's...
VW/Audi have had their fair share of timing chain issues. Just like that Audi engine, the VR6 VW engine has the chains on the back. So you can either pull the transmission and then with the engine disassembly, you are 98% of the way to just pulling the motor. So, it's just better to pull the...
Under $15K '&' cars in the US and 2017 sales numbers
Nissan Versa - $12,110 (22K)
Mitsu Mirage - $13,395 (106K)
Kia Rio - $13,900 (16K)
As for Tata, that added price was because it was a 4 wheeler. it needs to meet emissions and safety standards in the US. If you go to India and drive a Tata...
All I know is that where I live, they rarely ever do anything about lighting. Some of the setups I've seen amazes me. I do know one kid that got nailed because he had green headlights in his Jeep. Even at that, it took like a year before he got a warning and then changed them back. When I mean...
My grandfather was a pig farmer and he never said that. He just substituted "chicken" for pig and "chicken soup" with bacon. Poop was substituted with you know what. I do know one thing, after working there when I was growing up, nothing smells too bad any more.
I see that the Solo has full sized license plates on the front and back for Canada. Has Elio incorporated this for their cars? Then there are different plates and restrictions for all of the other countries that Elio will be sold in. It would be neat to see a China Spec Elio.
I've had lots of experience with aluminum engines. They do not heat up super fast unless it's a VW with the E888 engine in it (it has the water cooled exhaust manifold). I have a great comparison right now because my wife has a CRV that has an 1.5l all aluminum turbo 4 in it. Trust me it takes...
I had an e46 BMW and it had pop out windows. They were electric too, so you didn't have to get in the back and pop them open by hand (like in my old 911).
It's funny you bring that up. A customer of mine has a new Dodge 1500 with the small diesel in it. This past winter, it wouldn't start when it got to -10F. He discovered this when the family went to his parents house in VT for Christmas. It finally started at 10F but that was like a week later...
Here's what i found out. The 2015 has 140K on it. The only major problem has been the rear axle seals leaking after a year and Ford warrantied it. Other than that, it's been the required maintenance at the dealer. I didn't realize that he has a 2018 with 35K on it and it's equipped the same and...
That would be a heated windscreen. Ford did that back in the 80's and for some reason it's quite popular in Europe bu not here. They now call it the Quickclear Windscreen and even on cheap cars they have it (i.e. Ka). They could also add heated rear view mirrors to the package.
