It truly is a sad day! Just be safe out there specially in the rain as WA gets more share of it than in other areas of the US. I always say the car's brakes can only do so much, it's our awareness of what's around our car while on the road that's key to avoiding accident.
That's the strange part; it was 75 and clear skies.
The main cause to the accident was no ones fault; it was a mechanical failure (the LF wheel came off) that could not have been predicted.
I started carrying my Go Pro as a dash cam; it's mounted by suction cup to the windshield and see's what I see (it sees it clearer though) just because you can't predict what's going to happen when you drive.
I will do the same in my Elio; actually in the Elio I'll probably do a couple of them to get a wider image.

Harleys are expensive for many reasons but none more than legacy pension payments mandated by agreements with the UAW .
Exactly the same reason that a Chevy Malibu is $23,000 .
It's difficult to stay affordable when folks who retired thirty years ago are still getting paid .
General Motors got rid of most of their pension issues long ago... Transferred pension responsibility to Delco, combined Delco to Delphi, spun that company back off on it's own, let it go bankrupt, and then let the Government pay the pensions as part of the Chapter 11... as an additional slap, they then bought back the parts of Delphi that they wanted (I'm betting they didn't want the pension part...)

Well, here's the whole history but it was kind of dirty.

  • 1994: General Motors formed Automotive Components Group.
  • 1995: ACG was renamed Delphi Automotive Systems.
  • 1999: Delphi Automotive Systems became a fully independent publicly held corporation.
  • 2001: 11,500 jobs were cut worldwide (Bischoff 1A).
  • 2002: Delphi Automotive Systems was renamed Delphi Corporation reflecting its diversified business direction.
  • 2005: Twenty-four plants closed down in the U.S.
  • February 2007: Delphi announced the closure of its plant in Puerto Real, Cádiz, Spain, with a loss of 1600 direct jobs and more than 2500 indirect jobs.[5] despite having agreed to continue its manufacturing operations until 2010 and receiving more than €25 million from various public administrations in order to guarantee its workers' jobs.[6] The Andalusian autonomous government announced it would begin legal action against the company for breach of local labor laws.[7]
  • May 2008: Delphi filed a lawsuit against investors. The lawsuit seeks to impose payment by investors in the amount of $2.55 billion in securities to aid Delphi as it seeks to come out of bankruptcy. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Robert Drain in New York ruled to allow Delphi to seek payments through a contract against Appaloosa Management LP as well as denying investors' request for a cap of $250 million for damages.[8][clarification needed]
  • 6 October 2009: Delphi's core assets were purchased by a group of private investors to create a new Delphi Corporation. Some of its non-core steering operations have been sold to General Motors Company, the successor to the bankrupt Motors Liquidation Company that used to be the old General Motors Corporation. The stock was cancelled. The old Delphi Corporation was renamed DPH Holdings Corporation.[9]

The duck did have cameras fore and aft, info hasn't been released whether the cameras are intact has yet to be shared.
The kids on the bus were all transfer students from China, and I guess the duck had tourists (locals don't even wave when they go by.)
the accident closed a major N/S highway-99, which just a few miles south is awaiting the completion of Big Bertha- The Seattle version of Boston's Big dig and needless to say, caused major traffic problems.
It didn't help that the Prime Minister from China, traveling on interstate 5, shut it down.
and it eon't get any better this weekend
UW has a home game on Sat, and Sunday first home NFL football game.
I live a few miles from the bridge and UW this will be my first weekend traffic jams.
Entrance to 5 last night posted "expect Delays Football Sat"
BTW, I grew-up and lived in "THE city" (NY), was driving north on the FDR highway when all traffic was forced to stop as an entourage (they were taking Nixon from NJ to a NYC hospital), but I ramble...

Best thing you can do this weekend? Stay home and stay off the roads!
If you need any supplies, go get them now.
Then put your car in the garage (if you have one) and relax for the next 3 days.

that's my plan exactly!! no garage, but off-street parking ( a big deal here), as new apt buildings are limiting parking (in the hope that folks will use public transportation or their bikes.)
Speaking of bikes, When there was a lot of traffic (NYC, Florida, and Pittsburgh you can discount Pitt,--where no one follows any rules)I've always gone down the lines - yea I was young and more stupid.
Here bicycles follow car rules, and you gotta stand at intersections waiting for a crossing light to allow pedestrians to cross, how quaint, and my first winter hasn't begun. I can see myself getting wetter just waiting.
