Like I said, one is made in China w/ cheap labor w/out much amenities and safety features and our ELIO w/c will be American made w/ American labor, airbags, am/fm radio, seatbelts, air conditioning and 5 star ratings for $6,800! Even the Chinese makers can't get that low! That's why it's a big question mark if EM can deliver it for that price! We're all certainly hoping, dreaming, drooling that they could and that remains to be seen. In my previous post, I found one American made HD entry level motorcycle for $6,849 msrp! And it's a motorcycle!!

You used the wrong word, can't. The correct word is won't.

Another good answer I've missed to take into consideration! The introduction of the P5 with it's pre-production engine for AIV will be EM's biggest advertising ammo to showcase to the world by far- taking it to the streets of America- but first thing first- it'll be at the LA Auto Show! EM should let Car & Driver Magazine testers take it for a spin so they can feature it in their Dec. issue! Now that would be something, would it?
INDEED!!

Think "loss-leader", selling the first 40-50k units at posted price (and incentives)
After that, there is nothing wrong with EM announcing that effective (a date) the price will be (pick a number).
At that time there will be no need for advertising (posted here recently), and away they go!! $8k + accessory mark-up,??
they back off on the overnight thing (too expensive to meet that goal), contrary to some other posts I don't think the "Public" gives a hoot where it's made- check-out Walmart, AND, most important- sales of yellow, will keep EM in the black!!

Hey if anyone wants one of these hunk-a-junk things, there's one on eBay right now for $3K.

Oh my! I just thought of something. With this coming out in 4th quarter 2016 and in the news, how many people will be trying to place an order for Christmas 2016? Creating a craze before they are available in the stores. Is this slick marketing or what.

Here's my 1 cent 3wheelin! :croc:

Other than the idea that Elio has said it's a must have to get the price as close to $6800 as possible, and one recent formal document from Elio mentioned "no more than $7600"...

1) Elio Motors is meeting regularly with suppliers. This allows both Elio and the parts suppliers to work together towards an idea of less cost for components. Paul has told a story many times, when he worked for a car company many years ago, he met with a part supplier and asked them to move a hole (or a bolt, I can't remember) 1 inch, and Paul's company would save X cents for Paul's new design. Part supplier basically said "up yours", we're not changing it. That's not happening with Elio's suppliers; they are collaborating (wow, what a great idea!) and working together so that you don't have problems like Paul experience years ago.

2) Another thing: Elio isn't charging for a bunch of extras that you may not want. If you want extras, you pay only for what you want, one item at a time. You don't have to get the "EX" package for $2800 that has 7 other things in it that may sound nice but you really don't want. Hopefully we won't have to pay for floor mats for the Elio too, but that's up in the air... lol. And it is true that the base price does not include automatic transmission. *gasp for effect*

3) A personal observation: car companies have us trained to believe that a price of $13,000 is really inexpensive for the smallest of 4-wheel vehicles. If (and it's a big if) a TV commercial shows a base price for a vehicle, for example $22,000, they show you a model with all the extras, and put it in tiny small lettering for 4 seconds that "actual car shown is $33,790". More and more commercials show a lease payment rather than a purchase payment, because the lease payment is less money. Not very many people do a lease, it doesn't make sense for but a small % of people. Loans are regularly given now for 6 year terms. My point is: how do WE know that a vehicle that is 1 person wide instead of 2.5 people wide, can't be sold for around $7000 and still give the maker a profit margin?
Well said. We really can't know until 4th quarter of next year when everything is in place and the manufacturing stations are all geared up for ELIO's first batch! That's us!

The CRAZE and the MAD DASH to make reservations will start during and after the LA AUTO SHOW where the P5 w/ it's spanking new engine will be showcased!!! This is the closest so far to the actual production version so all eyes will be focused on this one!
