Here's a good one for you....how is it that a well known and established company like Harley Davidson can't price their motorcycles well below the ELIO price point when it has even less stuff....2 wheels, no air conditioning, less panels, less paint, 2 less brakes, etc. - Harley Davidson motorbikes are also made at 4 locations in the USA- WI, York, PA, Kansas, MO, Tomahawk, WI. An entry level bike I wanted to buy, STREET 500 - $6,849! Their TOURING ULTRA LIMITED LOW - $27,299!!!! Not trying to put you on the spot but give it your best shot because I don't have an answer for this!
p.s.- we can even move to Can Am Spyder (base SPORT- $14,999, top of the line TOURING- $23,349) if you want. Hell, if they can sell it for $6,800 or less, don't you think people will be lining up to buy it like crazy- forget about the roof, or the air conditioning..I'll brave the rain or some snow!!! I'll even buy 2! But again, is there a mystery, or people are just too gullible to really think that a car like the ELIO that has yet to prove it's merit on the streets of America and beyond let alone being built could be priced so low and we're just suppose to accept it because they said so??? My 1 cent.
Harley charges what they do because people will pay it. Same goes for Apple... BMW... etc.

It's the nature of the beast! They (Apple, BMW, Harley D, etc.) know they have a "winner" in their hands so why not charge more if they're sure consumer will buy! Paul Elio's ELIO for the masses with it's base price of $6800. could be achieved so long as everybody in this project (suppliers, etc.) are on the same page with PE regarding his price goal. I can almost imagine them in the same room arguing, going back and forth how to charge this and that, what final price is acceptable to us reservation holders if they went beyond their projected $6800. base price! And PE trying to calm them down saying "there's enough money to be made for everybody down the road but first things first, we need to do this right the first time!". ;)
I have a hunch that funding is in place because in EM's website it says ELIO coming in 2016!

The CRAZE and the MAD DASH to make reservations will start during and after the LA AUTO SHOW where the P5 w/ it's spanking new engine will be showcased!!! This is the closest so far to the actual production version so all eyes will be focused on this one!
I think there will be a big boost in demand as a result of both (LA auto show, and Christmas 2016 when they first appear on the road).

I am considering a seconding Elio so I need to make my decision before the LA Auto Show.

Isn't it sleek how the Elio is the first thing seen when going to the LA auto show website! It wasn't like that in New York!

I ass.u.me that the P5 Build will be complete, running, tested, and on display in EM's LA Auto Show space. I need to see the actual P5 in all it's glory to confirm it.

well, XII:XXVIII- night all, we had a terrible accident here this afternoon, and the city mourns
Yes, it was on the news yesterday; said 4 dead 2 critical. Collision between (this sounds funny but it's not) a chartered bus and a duck.
Accident Video

The Duck is a 29,000lbs. amphibious WWII landing craft. The bridge it was on is an older narrow 6 lane bridge with no center median barrier.
There was a driver following the Duck; he reported "it signaled to get into the left lane going northbound ; as it was moving over the Left Front Wheel came off the Duck."
The Duck started veering on the road, it then hit an SUV and did a 45 degree across the bridge into the Southbound lanes and T-boned the bus; the bridge was closed all day and it is a main road going North/South through Seattle.

Harleys are expensive for many reasons but none more than legacy pension payments mandated by agreements with the UAW .
Exactly the same reason that a Chevy Malibu is $23,000 .
It's difficult to stay affordable when folks who retired thirty years ago are still getting paid .

It truly is a sad day! Just be safe out there specially in the rain as WA gets more share of it than in other areas of the US. I always say the car's brakes can only do so much, it's our awareness of what's around our car while on the road that's key to avoiding accident.

I'm thinking that the average wage of a CEO at $7000 per hour may have something to do with that. The average retired blue collar worker may deserve a break today and not catch all the blame for higher pricing.

Didn't all of those payments go away when they filed for Bankruptcy?
