True, but CDs are only slightly more car friendly than taking all of my LPs with me. Most car stereos (certainly the one they end up putting in the Elio) don't have the resolution to hear the difference between a CD and a decent MP3. There were issues early on when people were ripping their own MP3s with stand alone software. Just like dummies with digital cameras, people would turn down th settings so that they could fit more music on their drive.

When I want to really enjoy my music, I drop a high quality LP on the turntable and let electron valves amplify the signal going to my speakers. Panasonic does make a double din car stereo with tube preamplification... :D

I know my son-in-law spends more on a amp than the cost of the Elio, and one of his greatest concerns is vibrations, so why would you place a tube unit in a car?, and then you get into the speakers, and the pre-amp, and and and- his system takes a footprint larger than the e, and I can't even appreciate the difference between my iPod and his setup!, Hey it makes him happy, and my daughter's cool with it so I'm happy too!!

I use GPS all the time for traffic and such.
One of these days I'm expecting the little voice in the box to say "Really? You should know this one by now!"
o_O

I do as well .... when I tell our Garmin GPS to take me to any given location, it will tell me if there are delays on any of the larger roads I will be traveling .... having that info up front has helped by allowing me to change routes so as to avoid the traffic backup .... when using it to travel through unfamiliar areas, I've found it does pay to take a look at the route it selects because there have been times I find I'd rather go a different way

The music I listen to doesn't need to sound good. Just needs to be heard. (sigh)

so long as I can hear coverage of a race or ballgame, I'm good to go .... we have a 9 CD changer in our big truck and I don't even own a CD

I've seen lots of numbers floated around on options, delivery charges, etc. Do we have any ballpark numbers on what the various options will actually cost? I'm getting auto, cruise and plain old radio. I don't intend to get the fancy skyactiv system, heated or leather seats or an extra price color. Taking EM at their word, right now, I'm thinking $6,800 base, plus $800 AMT, plus $200 cruise, plus $500 destination charge, plus $500 registration fees to the DMV. (No sales tax in Delaware, but they hit you on a new registration.) That gives me an estimated total of $8,800. Am I way off base? I assume there are things I have not considered and need to factor in. After getting my all-in credit of $1,500, that leaves a balance of $7,300. For the last year or so, I've been making my future car payments to a separate account, so I want to make sure I don't come up short when its time to write the check next July (??) (#7797). So, what am I missing??
I plan to finance the base Elio (5300) I will then pay cash for all the ad ons. As well as any deler prep. I too will pick up at the factory. Hopfully defraying some destination cost. Right now my bank is at 2.55% interest on new car loans. I am figuring 4-5 grand worth of ad ons (ATM Skys. ect. )
The whole ball of wax should come to around $9500.
