Well, it's a done deal... I've taken the final step to becoming an owner of one of these neat little vehicles! I've spent a fair amount of time over the years commuting on bikes of various sizes, both in all types of weather, and as I've gotten older, trading the bike for a small car on the nasty days. I look forward to being able to drive or ride interchangeably at the same (or better) fuel mileage while protected from the weather. It will make those days that I choose to ride the bike more enjoyable, knowing that it was my option to do so as opposed to really needing to do it to get by on the month's remaining budget!

My name is Don, and I'm an amateur radio operator (license/callsign is NN4S) and a lab instructor at a local community college in the machine tool program. I support both the manual and CNC labs, though I spend the majority of my time in the CNC lab with the second-year students in our program. While I used to have a lot of time for playing with and working on vehicles, it just doesn't appeal to me as much as it used to. When the gas prices climbed above $1.50 a gallon, my enjoyment of driving, riding, and general motorsport use started to wane. At the current rates above $3 a gallon, I do what I can to plan my trips for the least fuel usage and don't just drive for enjoyment any more. Maybe my new Elio will help change this, but at least it will help to stretch my teaching salary a good bit further... something that can't help but bring a smile to my face!!! :D

Hi Jim, thanks for the welcome! I've been popping in and checking on things here for a while now but, with how busy I usually am at school, I never registered knowing my time to actually post would likely be pretty limited.

I found out about the Elio almost one year ago now while attending a training session for work and have been following it's progress ever since. My time spent lurking here has also been used to judge the general character of the site, so I can say with authority that I'm looking forward to being here and know that, for the most part, I'm in really good company! I really look forward to the day we all get to start driving these around, although that's about the time I expect the site community will be overwhelmed with the "usual suspects" and possibly lose it's unique air of friendliness and acceptance. Let's hope that I prove to be completely wrong on that!!!

Welcome Don! :)

Glad you decided to jump off that fence and put down some of you hard earned cash on one of these vehicles as well as actively join in on the conversations. We do try and keep the site as friendly as possible with a lot of help from our great members who help chase away the occasional troublemaker and hopefully that will continue to be the case well into the future. :D

As you already know, you have joined a very diverse group of people from all over the country who really enjoy discussing everything there is to know about this interesting vehicle. I hope you continue enjoy your time here reading about and/or discussing all there is to know about Elio Motors.

If you have not yet joined in on the survey please do as it really helps us visualize the growing numbers and locations of future Elio Owners. For now information visit this link: http://www.elioowners.com/threads/elio-reservation-map-and-survey.1129/

We also have a thread for our many current and former service members to introduce themselves. If that applies to you visit this thread:http://www.elioowners.com/threads/military-service.1118/

If you ever happen to have any issues while on this forum please be sure to notify a staff member as we are here to help.

Thanks for the welcome! I did go take the survey for the reservation map although I expect I'll be waiting a bit for my reservation number to be sent. I will have to check into the former service thread, as I did spend a few years in the USAF as a camera tech for a couple of unique aircraft back in the early `80s out in CA and in a few other locations around the globe!

As a machinist and CNC programmer, I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on one of these and seeing what I might like to change... perhaps a few small billet pieces to spice it up a bit after the fact! No matter what, the prospect of being able to get two weeks or better from a tank of gas just gets me all fired up! :D

Hi and welcome from Oregon, Don. T. I believe we have communicated elsewhere on the forum but I still wanted to welcome you. As a retiree living on Social Security only, I understand the attraction of the Elio in both price and mileage. I am hoping to spend a little more time traveling without having to worry about every penny I spend on gas. Enjoy the forum. In my not at all humble opinion, I think you chose a great forum to join. :-) Z

Thanks, Z; I expect the Elio to be a major blessing to all on a lower/fixed income. I make around half the money teaching that I made working in industry, not to mention getting paid only once a month when I've been used to a biweekly payday for the last 30 years! Stretching the income as far as possible makes a difference between being pinched and living comfortably, no matter why you're doing it.
