I loved my Smarts (I've purchased 3 of them brand new...

....My Elio will replace one of my recreational weekend motorcycles...

Your aprehension over the Elio coming to market is understandable, but it is clear--from statements like these--why you doubt the success of the Elio. Simply put, you are not the Elio's target demographic.

I've never purchased a new car in my life, never owned a recreational vehicle of any kind, and my Elio will be my primary commuting vehicle. Even with low gas prices, the savings I'll see by driving my Elio will be like getting a $0.50/hour raise at work. I don't know about your situation, but for me and my family that would be life-changing.

For people like me, which make up a large part of the used/junker vehicle market, the Elio will be a Godsend. You can bet we'll buy up every one of those 250,000-per-year that EM is projecting they will manufacture.

But I am the target audience...Paul has said many times he expects the Elio to an extra vehicle in households that don't need to utilize their large vehicle's on a everyday basis...so they add a Elio to their fleet!

I'm very much hoping to purchase an Elio...time will tell if the $7,000 price point can be met.

I think the Elio will be very successful...hopefully selling at least 50K units yearly!

As of about six months ago, EM's engineering and parts supplier projections had them at $7300 each, and getting 81 mpg. Time will tell how much (if any) they'll be able to improve on those numbers. Based on the SEC filing, they were saying $7500 each, but if they could produce 250,000 units annually then economies of scale would lower that price to the target of $6800.

As to sales volume... if Harley Davidson can sell 171,500 motorcycles in the US (an expensive and purely recreational vehicle) then I'm sure EM will be able to hit their production capacity selling to the recreational, student, impoverished and commuter demographics.

Man, that Ty guy always changes the font color of hyperlinks to blue so they are easy to identify. He can't help it that this forum doesn't automatically do that but it IS a thoughtful gesture on his part (even if he does have to first post and then edit it to get the colored text to stay).

He rocks!
