OK, my bad. Now I cannot find the picture that I saw that got me to thinking they were flat from side to side.... Sorry about injecting confusion...

You might have seen the retro fenders and got them crossed up with the stock fenders. Now those are far from Aero; they are flat, and they're open to the wind in front. You can see them in the P2 & P3 and in the Configurator.
The P2 was Green the P3 was Silver. Pictures of those are floating around here in mass and they're on the EM home page.

He is talking about the front; they are a Kammback design; the important part to Aero is what is presented to the wind (front edge) and the flat area at the back of the fender is the Kammback; as close to the ground as those fenders go they present a flow like the bow of a boat.
Air is like water in that respect.
Since there is no way for the air to strike anything but a smooth rounded surface it is very aerodynamic.
I believe the flattened area makes it a quasi Kammback (I keep seeing camelback and i know it's not.) The true Kammback cuts off at ~50% of forward wind displacement/cross section and this looks to be about 70%.

OK, here goes..."Hey Mike, what day is it?" And no, Sunday is not the preferred answer!

I'd like to see someone try some Formula E-style fenders, except I think a mirror fender may be needed on the trailing side of the wheel to catch water and dirt splatter.

Mounting these to the Elio's body would allow the wheels to turn without interfering with the vehicle body. This would be one way to maintain or even improve the Elio's aerodynamics while allowing the owner to show off some nice wheels. :D
