I think I may have started this, but no problem, all you missed was another political rant by the anointed ones. IMHO
I thought "General Discussion" meant just that, silly me.
If that little bit in the general discussion thread was the problem then there seems to be a rather low tolerance for debate. I guess there could always be the concern that things will degenerate from there into the usual 'socialist commie pinko's' vs the 'heartless corporate bible-nazis' debate, which does getkind of pointless since I doubt anyone is likely to change their spot on the political spectrum in light of this forum. But the silly name calling and acusations can be kind of entertaining too. :-)

with forums and such, its unfortunate but necessary to place limits on commentary so as to maintain an atmosphere where most folks feel comfortable .... sadly, some people enjoy planting discourse in an attempt to stir up trouble (commonly called trolls) .... with the camping forum I administer, the rule of thumb is we consider our community to be the Mayberry of the internet .... as such the rule of thumb is, if you shouldn't say it to Aunt Bee, don't say it .... in addition, no personal attacks or insults .... it works for us .... while I personally wish we didn't, we actually have both a political and a religious area .... neither require much moderation because we are firm on the standards for posting comments and the members know it up front

Any topic can turn political for sure.
Politics, like money, is ubiquitous. Virtually every aspect of our lives are largely, if not exclusively, dictated by politics and money in one form or another. So really, dancing AROUND politics to avoid controversy is kind of disingenuine on all our parts. But in the same way that white lies function as social adhesive, perhaps we've come to tolerate our self-censorship as necessary to avoid society's total collapse.

I do understand the need for trying to keep topics on point without the open in your face politics. Still politics is a view point system and we all carry that into everything we do and say. As for avoiding society's total collapse I am not so sure we aren't headed down that rabbit hole already. Not in this forum but our civilization in general.

I hear egg shells breaking.
