Here is my figures for the cost of my Elio.
Shipping
or pickup=$750
Hopefully the shipping charge will not apply to factory pick up. We need to protest vigorously about that.
Gotta have it.
Paul is in favor of waiving this for factory pickup; however the sales people insist that it is necessary to hold the price at the 750 point for others and to maintain "a one price fits all" structure. Those that live closest will be subsidizing shipping for those more remote, ie. Hawaii, Maine, Washington.

I suspect it also has to do with the cost of transporting fewer vehicles than the big auto makers ship. Of course if they can figure out a way to ship 2 Elios in place of one bigger vehicle then it might drop the cost a bit. LOL :-) Z

Not really egalitarian: "equal access to resources" is not the same as "equal cost of service".
Equal cost of shipping where shorter shipping distances subsidize longer shipping distances is more a form of socialism or welfare (redistribution of wealth).
... Or the Post Office's equivalent of "If it fits, it ships." One price boxes no matter where they are going.

+ racing stripes. You forgot to add in the racing stripes!

I guess there's a reason sales people don't run corporations. The only one's who will make the trip to the factory are the true fan boys (and girls).

What little is lost in shipping is more than made up in goodwill, loyalty, exposure, and other things companies spend millions to obtain.

Every trip made there will be documented somewhere on the internet and eventually this alone will get them more exposure than a Super Bowl commercial.

Maybe they'll still charge the $750 but instead of using that money for shipping, they'll use it to pay for the stay, visit, and tour guide...
that is what I was thinking, based on Hilton rates for the length of stay, that's $300-$400 just on the room + you have the other expenses.

The casino that will be used in Shreveport will also be footing part of the bill as they expect to recover at least a part of their costs in food, drink and gambling. Think of it as a 'comp'. In any case I was told that the room rates were relatively inexpensive.
