Is that something you heard on the grape vine? Since there is doubt about the final price of the Elio how can they put out a price like that?
You may get the fenders for $250,00 but I don't think you will get any more for $250.00.
When you say all body panels does that include fenders, hood, roof and deck lid?
What have you heard on the windshield replacement cost?

I suspect that windshield replacement cost would be above average as will be an unusual size for the first few years.

I don't think this will actually be an issue for more than about the first year. While we may not get much, if any, discount for a smaller sized windshield these vehicles will be sold in enough numbers to warrant the windshields being widely available and market forces equalizing the prices quickly. If the reservation numbers are 60K+ in the first year alone this is actually a good number of vehicles which will make parts widely available quickly and this situation will only hopefully get better over time.

The composite panels were/are the reason for my optimism about door dings, hail damage, run-away shopping carts, and other public mayhem!

Was that a reference to Elio Motors' cost for the body panels? Paul Elio has been talking about bringing his costs down to achieve his $6800 price point goal. I don't believe that he has stated at what price replacement body parts would be sold to the public. Given the need for profitability, a markup on crash parts should be expected.

These body panels have less in common with Saturn or smart than to a Corvette. The body is bonded to the frame I read somewhere rather than screwed on. And gets painted and even with flexisizer it will fail if you bend it enough. There are shops that charge more for a paint job on a normal sedan than the replacement cost of our dream vehicle...

The good news is that with all body panels only costing $250 combined, repair should be no big deal.

$250 is elios wholesale cost for production purposes (because they are placing orders for over 250,000+ full sets) Retail cost to you buying just one set will be much higher.

If that were true, I'd buy a second full set of panels of a different color that I could swap in on a whim.

Cheaper than custom two tone paint. Interesting idea.
