Other companies offer tours, John Deere's Gold Key program being one I'm familiar with, so it's not an impossible idea.

Yes CheeseheadEarl, I understand what you are saying: John Deere, that has been around forever and is a "healthy" company, is well healed with a large pubic base can take the risks.

Elio, on the other hand, is brand new, NOT public owned, and has yet to put together enough money to cover the cost of production start-up.

I DO hope that they will one day throw open the factory doors and invite "John Q. Public" in to see the operation. I'll try to be one of the first in line for that parade, but between now and then, I WILL NOT BE HOLDING MY BREATH!

Never have liked the color of a "Smurf."

MM,
I 'Liked' your comment, except for your last line.

'I would hope one could get a factory tour, but for many reasons, I do not ever expect to see that happen' gave me a start, why do you think that, as they have stated a plant tour, is/will be offered?? Please explain your thoughts on that.

It would be the Best way to get the Elio out in the public eye. I don't think they can have 60 show rooms nor 7, or so distribution centers up and running before September, next year. You, I, and many others, that pick our Elios up at the factory, would be the Very Best advertising they could possibility get as we 'Take The Long Way Home'.

Picking our Elio up at the factory with a tour, with some 'Elio Ambassador' training would be a killer way to spread 'The Word'
Back to you.

Hey, tazairforce. I'm not saying that it absolutely will NOT happen, and I DO HOPE that it DOES COME TO PASS. Okay?

I, mean, not to rain on ANYONE's parade, (I've put my non-refundable $1000 up a long time ago too), but like so many other things, We still haven't seen any thing but "bump-backs" in most everything associated with our beloved Elio.

Let's wait and see the cars rolling off the line first, THEN maybe we will get our factory tours.

Fair enough? :)

Like I've said on here before, "I STILL continue to save my 'Dixie Cups' too."

tazairforce, I do BELIEVE in this Elio company.

Kuda, being realistic, in today's atmosphere of "sue happy 'snakes' ", (lawyers) I seriously think that the liability involved with dragging a bunch of "folks" through their factory, will likely not happen. Regardless of what is being said.

Of coarse, that's just my own stupid opinion, and we are ALL entitled to those. o_O

Unless of course they build the factory in anticipation of public tours ie; fish tank. you can see what's going on from behind a glass wall, without stepping foot on the shop floor. BMW does that in Germany. I haven't been to it myself, but a friend of mine buys a new beemer every year (sells the old one at a tidy profit after a few thousand miles) and is treated like royalty when he goes to pick up his car at the factory..he told me about the tour.. it sounds amazing!

Thanks to safety regulations and insurance requirements, we surely won't be allowed on the factory floor. But that doesn't mean we won't be allowed a guided tour, viewing the line from an enclosed walkway or catwalk.

Particularly during the first two or three years of production, this will be a outstanding PR opportunity for EM. It's also a good idea to offer product instructions for owners because WE will be if not salespersons for Elio, at least the most numerous cadre of ambassadors for the marque.

For the past 12 years rather than pay printers for hundreds, or a few thousand brochures, product flyers I began producing my own, color printing my own single sheets and 3-folds on demand. No more boxes of outdated literature. I can respond instantly to market needs and product changes in a matter of an hour before going on a sales call.

Rather than just talk with the anticipated crowds, I plan to make up cards and a folder to give to curious onlookers in parking lots with pictures and specs from EM's website, directing serious inquiries to both the company and local dealers (with their approval, of course).

Well, my plan for picking up my Elio is something like this.
Both wife and I take a week off work (vacation).
Going to drive to Shreveport from Jacksonville, Fl area in our Mercedes E class (not bragging, but imagine getting out of that car into a Elio, LOL).
Have a nice dinner with some local cuisine and spend the night somewhere, maybe that casino that was mentioned earlier in the thread.
Get up and have some Eggs Benedict, LOL (I love that heart clogging and stopping concoction).
Drive to the Elio factory, check it out, hopefully take a tour, pick up the Elio and do a little practice driving.
Then spend the next 3-4 days driving back to Jacksonville area with a few side trips,
Like New Orleans for some beignets, maybe stop and see the wonderful people at Villalobos rescue and make a donation for their cause.
Then head towards Mississippi for some good BBQ.
Stop in the panhandle of Florida to see family and friends, maybe run down to Panama City Beach for a day.
Then head on home.
Sounds boring, but I think we will enjoy it.
