What are some leading investment experts saying about Elio Motors?

Elio Motors is bringing a vehicle to market that is unlike anything available today. At 84 MPG and $6,800, we will take affordability and fuel efficiency to levels that have never been seen before.

Because we are so unique, we try not to compare ourselves to other companies and vehicles that are already on the market. But, sometimes, people do it for us.

Last week, renowned investment web site Motley Fool featured a blog that compared Elio Motors to Tesla Motors, the electric vehicle start-up from Elon Musk with an approximate $27.4 billion valuation. Here’s a link to the full story.

We hold Mr. Musk and Tesla Motors in high regard – as a fellow start-up, we respect their effort to bring something new and unique to the market. We share a similar retail strategy as Tesla, but the article pointed out many other Elio strengths, too.

Here are a few examples:

Outstanding Supplier Network

Here’s what Motley Fool had to say about Flame-Spray Industries (www.flame-spray.com), for example:

“Elio Motors does make a convincing argument with its technology and business strategies. The Elio is manufactured with trusted and respected automobile suppliers. For instance, Flame-Spray Industries has pioneered a novel thermal spraying process that improves the efficiency of the manufacturing process, and reduces the weight of vehicles -- therefore boosting fuel efficiency.”

Frankly, setting up our supplier network was one of the first and most important aspects of building our business. In addition to Flame-Spray, the article mentions Lear Corporation (www.lear.com) and Henkel (www.henkel.com). But, our supplier team includes more than 30 of the top suppliers in the industry bringing unique engineering and manufacturing expertise that will help us achieve our ultimate goal.

The Elio as an “AND” Vehicle:

Motley Fool also was complimentary of our strategy to be a second commuter car:

“The business strategy is also well conceived. While Elio Motors knows an Elio won't be the primary car for most households, selling at a fixed, low cost of $6,800 will certainly make it worth a second look as a niche vehicle.”

Paul Elio frequently refers to the Elio as an “AND” vehicle. Most commuters, even owners of Minivans and SUVs, drive solo to work every morning. Why waste six or seven empty seats and more importantly, all that fuel? Many people will keep their bigger vehicles for errands on the weekends, or kid’s activities in the evening.

Significant Cost Savings

Obviously, a highly fuel efficient vehicle will provide significant cost savings and Motley Fool agreed:

“The economics could certainly work out for many households. If you're fetching at least 49-mpg driving an Elio, the fuel savings could add up tremendously over the long term, and more than cover the purchase cost.”

Americans are clamoring for a low-cost, highly fuel efficient transportation option. Our combination of supplier partners, our business strategies and the vehicle design and technology are creating something that people love, as evidenced by the more than 25,000 people who have reserved their place in line. But, while we know we are on the right path, it certainly is nice to hear others singing our praise.

It is true, low cost, efficiency, practicality, are all needed at this time in America, and even more so around the world. Here in America we have been pushed down a very embarrassing road not so good for five decades. Following the path of least resistance has very little benefit to truly innovative folk. Paul Elio, and his team, (growing daily), can, I hope, design, and assemble a vehicle with versatility, and potential for the average person, (where the innovation lives), and the vision grows exponentially. Put you ear to the ground, there is that unmistakeable ringing.

Want the full 50 percent “All In” Bonus? Better act fast!

If you’ve been on the fence about reserving a spot in line to get an Elio, or perhaps have been thinking of upgrading to get an even better spot in line, now is the time to act.

Elio Motors' fans who want to reserve a spot to purchase the 84 MPG, $6,800 vehicle haveuntil Sept. 1, 2014 to take advantage of the early adopters reward – a 50 percent bonus off an “All In” non-refundable reservation. For example, a $1,000 “All In” non-refundable reservation would receive an additional $500* toward the price of a vehicle at the time of purchase

But, beginning Sept. 2, 2014 Elio Motors will change the “All In” bonus to 25 percent for new non-refundable reservations and for those current reservation holders who wish to upgrade to a higher reservation level.

And, for those of you who are already at the $1,000 “All In” level, how about this? Now is the perfect time to reserve a spot in line for a second Elio. Because, after all, the only thing better than one Elio is two!

More than 25,000 people have put money down for reservations so far, underscoring the customer demand the vehicle will fill – and perhaps heightening the urgency to get in line. Reservations are growing at an accelerated pace.

“People keep putting their hands up and saying ‘I want in,’” said Paul Elio. “Our low cost and high fuel efficiency combined with unique styling and fun driving characteristics has created a legion of enthusiastic fans. We knew we were on to something special when we designed this vehicle and the intense and loyal reaction from future customers has reinforced our commitment to building something great.”

The 50 percent reward program has been a way to provide something special for those who showed faith and support for the project early on.

“Elio Motors' fans don’t simply buy into a new vehicle,” Elio said. “They buy into our entire philosophy. They understand the mission we are trying to accomplish, and they have been incredibly supportive of our efforts. While all our customers mean a great deal to me, I have been profoundly impacted by our early believers.”

So, what are you waiting for? Make a reservation or upgrade today! You don’t want to get too far in the back of the line, do you?

Why is 84 MPG/$6,800 so impactful? Because it’s a lot better than 23 MPG/$32,068!

As a fan of Elio Motors and the vehicle, you know that we continually drill home two really important benefits that some thought impossible but we plan to make reality.

84 MPG and $6,800.

We say it again and again and again. Why? Because these two targets are what drives Elio Motors and what will ultimately drive you.

These figures – 84 MPG and $6,800 are radical improvements compared to industry averages, and today’s consumer is clamoring for something this affordable and this fuel efficient.

The average new vehicle price in 2013 was $32,068, according to industry pricing guide Kelley Blue Book, while the average EPA fuel economy estimate for 2013 was 23 MPG. Let that sink in -- $32,068 and 23 MPG. With an Elio, consumers get nearly three times the gas mileage for around one-fifth the price.

“Vehicle affordability is really out of balance,” said Paul Elio, CEO of Elio Motors. “The weak economy has suppressed earnings for most people, but the cost of a new vehicle continues to go up. It really is an unsustainable course.”

If a consumer placed a 20 percent down payment on an average vehicle, they would still need to finance more than $25,000. For a 48-month loan, that means they will pay more than $600 per month. It’s a hefty price tag, and it’s far too much for most people in the United States. With gas at $4 per gallon, it costs $2,600 to drive 15,000 miles in a vehicle with average fuel efficiency. Driving the same distance in an Elio at $4 per gallon will cost less than $1,000, which is obviously a significant savings.

Of course, millions of vehicles on the road today get significantly lower than average fuel efficiency. Most of these “clunkers” are low-cost vehicles owned by people who don’t believe a new vehicle is within their price range. For these consumers, Elio Motors will be a true game changer. Instead of driving an unreliable, low-mileage vehicle, “clunker” owners will now be able to afford a new vehicle that costs four times less to operate and comes with a three-year, 36,000 mile warranty.

“High vehicle costs, high operating costs and high maintenance costs drag down the affordability of most used vehicles,” Elio said. “We are providing our own version of "Cash for Clunkers" that will help get many of these vehicles off the road. So, when we hit our sales targets, we will help to reduce fuel consumption by 0.35 percent. That’s significant.”

For Elio, it was a matter of challenging people’s mindset about transportation. Sure, families need the functionality offered by a pickup truck, an SUV or a minivan. There are projects to do, sports to play and vacations to take. Often, these require a big vehicle with a lot of seats. And, of course, the car companies are more than willing to manufacture and sell these vehicles. Pickups, SUVs and minivans are very profitable.

But, why not have a second vehicle for all those days when you aren’t doing a project, heading to a ball game or heading up to the cottage? Most work commutes – 76.3 percent, in fact – are driven solo. So, why not own a second, more affordable vehicle for those trips?

As long as vehicle prices and operating costs remain high, Elio will remain a winning solution for all.

How to Avoid Hitting the Moose? Electronic Stability Control from Mando, of Course!

Let’s face it, hitting a moose is not good for any vehicle (or the moose). So, over the years, car makers in cold-weather climates such as Sweden and Finland developed a test that entailed steering hard to the left, then steering hard back to the right to simulate avoiding a large mass – or moose – on the road. In the US we call the European “Moose Test” the Consumer Reports Avoidance Maneuver (CR Maneuver or CRAM).

Today, the Moose Test is one of the standards for testing Electronic Stability Control (ESC), one of the most important safety innovations in recent automotive history. A 2012 study from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that more than 2,200 lives were saved by ESC from 2008 to 2010.
c164d8c8-40c6-4b26-837b-24644de99014.jpg

Safety is such an important focus of Elio Motors’ development, that adding ESC to the vehicle was an obvious choice. Therefore, having a world-class ESC supplier is an important part of the company’s long-term success. Fortunately, Elio Motors is working with its supplier partner Mando, a recent “Supplier of the Year” recipient.

Working from its Novi, Mich., North American Research & Development Center, Mando has developed an ESC system designed specifically to work with a three-wheel vehicle and to provide safety functionality in line with today’s safest vehicles.

Just What is ESC?

Today’s ESC systems consist of Anti-lock Brake Systems (ABS), Traction Control (TCS) and Stability Control. The ESC system continuously monitors inputs from the throttle, on board sensors measuring yaw (a.k.a. “fishtailing”) lateral acceleration, longitudinal acceleration, brake status and steering angle signals to determine if the vehicle is doing what the driver intended. If the ESC system senses the vehicle’s path does not match driver intention, it will adjust engine torque and apply braking to various wheel combinations as appropriate to bring the vehicle back onto the path of the driver’s chosen path.

ESC systems use tiny electrically actuated hydraulic valves to precisely adjust brake pressure to each wheel. During an ABS event such as a wheel spin or poor traction, this precision allows the driver to slow down and stop while maintaining full steering control and maximum brake forces. The ABS system is specifically tuned for any adverse road conditions including rain, snow, ice or oil, dirt and sand patches.
c4a25a54-8cf5-45d3-9232-5ee299c0bfed.jpg

Stability control uses the same precision brake pressure adjustments and can add pressure to wheels independently correcting for cases of under steer, over steer and emergency avoidance maneuvers also regardless of road surface condition. In addition to the stability control braking, the ESC unit will adjust engine torque based upon the vehicle yaw until the vehicle is stabilized and engine torque is restored back to the driver. Traction control utilizes both engine and precision brake control to maximize acceleration and stability on all surface conditions.

What does it all mean to a future Elio owner? Vehicle stability will be enhanced with one of the most important safety technologies available today. And, because Mando (An Automotive Leader of Safety and Convenience Products) has a winter testing facility in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, we’ll make sure our owners are in the best position possible to avoid any moose that happens to cross the road.

Thank you, Terrence, but I can't take credit it for the information. LOL I simply receive the Tech Talks by email and then post them. I'm always glad to know it is appreciated though. I found this one quite interesting even though I can't claim to totally understand all of it. :) Z
