I agree. I don't think you can turbocharge a 12:1 compression ratio and gain a reliable engine.

It's not the turbo that creates the problem, it "How you abuse the turbo"....aka driving style.

Over 270K miles with a turbo on the LRR and no problems related to the turbo.

Put 750K hard miles on a Cummins N-14 6cyl. Never had a lick of trouble with the Turbo.

Because a Cummings Diesel is exactly the same as the Elio engine.

The Chevy Sprint had a 3cyl turbo. I never heard of any reliability issues there. To be fair, There are only a few hundred left though.

The turbo would be very small. How does Elio Motor only get 55hp at a 12.5/1 ratio?

Because of the design of the engine, especially only 2 valves per cylinder.

Maybe because it is only a 55 cu in naturally aspirated engine?
Lets look at 55 cu in, 55 hp, 55 ft lb torque, naturally aspirated!
And it's not direct injected!
Lots of room to grow!
