The only union I ever belonged to was PATCO, the professional air traffic controllers organization and those of you who are young enough remember how that turned out. Union leadership sold us down the river and president Reagan fired all 11,500 of us in 1981. (I still voted for him twice though). My personal opinion is a unionized Elio plant will only drive up costs and do nothing to help quality. But it's not my call and frankly I don't care as long as I get my Elio on time and close to the price point promised.
