Well, that's certainly ambitious, I live in Bossier City, just across the Red River from Shreveport. My wife and I would be happy to host you on the inbound and outbound portions of your journey while conducting business at the factory or Elio Store here.

I-49 is the north bound interstate that connects with I-30 in Texarkana and on to Memphis for points north. Driving the Elio on the Interstate shouldn't be any less safe than a Motorcycle.

You will also be able to sample our world famous fried Catfish (our treat).

Just remember to drive closer to the center line than to the fog line so people can see you from behind when they are passing the eighteen wheeler directly behind you.

Regards,

Pat
Folks like you are why this forum is so fantastic. What a wonderful display of hospitality

Thank you for the invite, Pat. Catfish sounds very good but I have to be gluten free so I don't know how good a guest I can be. I have had 13 months to get used to being gluten free but I haven't had the courage to impose on others since I started. Time will tell and I'm sure we will be in touch on here in the meantime. LOL :-) Z

I guess you haven't read my trip plans. LOL It would take more than a free couple of nights in a casino to fly anywhere. However, the same trip by Amtrak is, at this time, $250 and takes 70 hours if there are no delays. All but 2 1/2 of those hours are by train and then the last 2 1/2 are by Amtrak bus. Around here those buses are very luxurious. The the drive home - by way of Pennsylvania to pickup my Mini Mate tent trailer, Toledo, OH to visit #1 son, to Lynnwood, WA to visit #2 son plus other family on the other side of the Sound, then home. Over 3,000 miles and the gas would be the cheapest part of the trip. LOL I know, I will simply have to make sure there is an Elio owner everywhere I go so I can set up my tent trailer in their back yard. LOL :) Z
You need to come through Knoxville Z. We have an extra room and you can stay a couple of days. We can compare our Elios.

If all this works out, our little 3 wheelers may be like the old VW bugs were! You own one and you join a family! Park two together and others stop to see what is going on! Soon there are a couple of dozen! In the 70s there was a discount store (Gibson's) that had an isle of VW parts hanging on hooks, you could get coils, fuel pumps, carburetors, brake shoes, points, plugs all really cheap! If these start selling 250,000 a year WE might be able to get parts at WalMart by the time our warranty runs out!

Well I guess I gave up on the Elio dream because I bought a tiny little 2014 Scion IQ. It gets about half the stated MPG of the Elio and cost 2.5 times more money but it is here and here right now.

It worried me that the production date keeps moving out. I also tried to contact the local Shreveport La government to get information on Elio taking over the GM plant there but get no response. I found all their city council meeting minutes and searched them for Elio information and didn't find anything to make be comfortable that the Elio would be produced there any time soon.

I love the idea of the Elio, I just don't think I'll ever get one in the near future! I'm glad I only went $100 all-in. Finally, I do like it that the Scion IQ has a passenger seat up-front for my wife. It also has 11 air bags and a long list of safety features. It was a hard decision to bail out but I sure like my Scion IQ - it is the "Monogram Series" only 150 made in this paint scheme.

A man has to do, what a man has to do. . . . . As the saying goes.

Sure gonna miss Ya on here, felkers. . . . And sorry that it turned out to be such a short trip for you.

Maybe we will pass each other at the gas pump, some day.

Good luck with your new car, and all the best to you and yours, my friend!

WELCOME to our Elio Family Forum, old1, from the future birth place of the Elio; the beautiful Bayou State, Louisiana!

I remember the old Gibson Discount Stores well. Worked in one back in 1962 or 63 when I was a kid re-stocking the shelves. The good old days, huh?

Anyway, it's sure great to have you on board with us!

Old1, welcome to the forum and to the Elio family. Your post brought back old memories of being able to find parts for my VW Bus in the local hardware stores. Glad you joined the Elio revolution in personal transportation and hope you enjoy the experience.
