I really hate taking risks personally, there's nothing sure about the outcome but I still do it. Somethings are just worth the unsure outcome. Sometimes I take them when I know I can absorb the loss if it doesn't work out, sometimes I take them not knowing if I have enough to cover it comfortably. That's the nature of opportunity and risk. Is the opportunity personally important enough to take that step? Is it important enough to take the risk not knowing if you have the capital (time, effort or money) to cover a failure completely? With the Elio we did have the money to cover the risk and the gamble certainly has not played out yet so I'm out nothing. It just all depends on how you view the Elio. If you are looking at it as a toy to add to your collection, the risk you are willing to take may be quite a bit lower. My wife and I see it as a practicality. It's a practical step we can take to reduce our personal petrolium consumption and a vehicle that is practical. It's also a practical (and enticing) example of how others could reduce as well. So for us, yes, it's worth the risk. Would we regret taking the risk if the Elio never got to market? No, we would be sad but we wouldn't regret it. It's worth the risk. The times in my life I played it safe, took the sure thing risk nothing at best I broke even. Taking risk is what broke us out of the just getting by way of life.
I took a risk on ELIO, the gamble has not played out yet. I did so because I wanted to and can. have no ill feeling towards those that feel they can not.
