You know, being along for this particular ride is worth the price of admission to me. I can't readily afford to lose my $500 (all I could afford to lose plus a little), but if this project should go bust, I have had a whale of a time cheering it on, questioning some elements about it, and doing what I can to help it come to pass. My loss, should it go under, will be money and disappointment, but the fun and involvement have been worth even more. Plenty of regrets, should it fail, but not regrets over having been on board.

Meanwhile, I think the Elio may still grace our pavements and our driveways. But they do need to get some large financial commitments pronto.

I have a strong tolerance for risk . Owned several business's and even got married :D But before I send a non-refundable deposit to a start-up car company , I have to factor in the failure rate of the many who came before Elio . Start-up success stories are very rare .
The math is 1 in every 200 succeed .
Since I have no problem waiting for Elio to succeed , sending a deposit would be irresponsible for me. I don't need to be the 1st to have one . I never stood in line to get my Iphone either . I don't criticize anyone else's optimism or strategy and expect the same respect .
Simply put, when Elio begins production , I will be a customer . If they fail to get off the ground , no harm done . I've shared a common interest with some likeable folks .
You've got my respect, and your math is a reality that I put to the side. If it doesn't happen, and I've stated it before. it's my contribution for the future of individual economic transportation, if not Elio, the next generation will hopefully get it right.

Just noticed this comment from EM on their Facebook page a little while ago. I guess they are, sorta, self funding.

The only way I would invest more money into EM is if I had the full $180 Million of additional funding needed to guarantee production and I could afford to lose it. Even then I would have to be in full control of writing checks from my Elio investment portfolio account to be certain it was going for production costs and not some other frivolous expenditures like salaries.

Why do I think that individual investment opportunity seems very "step right up folks" odd? Be careful out there regarding individual investment opportunities.

Very interesting find but would depend on what "friends" required. I still think finding $ should not be such a huge problem.
There is money to be had. 240 million to some would be easy to hand over. What ELIO must do is give them a reason to hand it over.
This goes on everyday. On a much smaller scale I get told I can have what we need to get the job done, followed by I must present a clear case for it.
Then it ends with I better go well.
