Merry Christmas to everyone!

I was reviewing Elio's website yesterday...and could not help but notice they're offering incentives (rebates) to promote per-orders.

After spending 30 years in the automotive industry...it's highly unusual that a vehicle manufacture would ever start discounting a new line of vehicle before they are in production!

Every price incentive (rebate) is done for a reason...manufacturers are not in the business of giving away money for nothing.

So...why would Elio be offering this generous financial incentive...and why only on non-refundable deposits?

Is this rebate a signal that Elio Motors is starting to feel a noticeable slowdown in the rate of new pre-orders...or a sign that the current cash flow is not meeting operating & vehicle development expenses?

Selling a $6,800 vehicle for $6,300 before it even coming to market would not seem to make prudent economic sense...it's tough enough to have a decent profit margin on a $6,800 vehicle.

When a automobile manufacture starts offering rebates...it's usually an indication that consumer demand is weak...

Wow...this is a very interesting scenario...what does everyone think?

TaxasElio, You will find on this forum that there are some that thinks the sun rises and sets in Elio Motors Rear.
You just asked a question that some on here don't want to hear. To them there isn't two sides of the coin, just their side.

The Auto industry has changed. Even on a new model Ford or Gm you can walk in an make the same rebate deals even if they are not offering them.
No fool pays MSRP for a car.
Elio is new not just a new model . a whole new car ,company and business model. They will come up with ways to call attrition to ELIO.

1. An ideal effort to encourage People, who otherwise may not be able to afford even this, to invest in thier own future along with Paul Elio.

2. A locked in sale for those produced in the first Year.

3. Increases excitment for those who're already invested in this project.

4. A built in and promised supply and demand template.

5. Instant feedback to Elio, showing where and how many, are following the Birth of a new concept.

6. Realizing minimal profit in order to establish this autocycle as an acceptable mode of tranportation, creating more "chatter" about it, as well as allowing those who are purchasing a "place in line" to feel they've already gained from the purchase.

7. Relatively inexpensive advertising is a direct result of the "rebate"..

It is a way to generate first year sales. With 40,000 sales pending, Elio is much more desirable to both investors and parts suppliers.

Well excuse me!!!! How dare you suggest that the sun doesn't rise and set in EM rear? How can you know for sure unless you sat in it, AND had installed a rear facing camera?? (accessory) Please reconsider your position about your rear until you can say with certainty you can/can't see the sun!!
thank you for your consideration

Also, the "new" $500 rebate is merely the limited reintroduction of the incentive they've had since day one which was their way of saying thank you to all the people who truly supported them.
