I spent a grand total of 18 days in the Air Force back in 1979. Had damage to the vision in one eye (from a punch that smashed in my cheekbone when I was 15), which I was initially assured would keep me out of the pilot's seat, but wouldn't stop me from being a navigator or other in-flight position. Then while I was down sweating out July at Lackland, I was pulled in and told that I couldn't have a flight position, but I still had a seat for OTS. Then a few days later, an actual Colonel gave me the choice of surrendering my OTS spot and staying in as an Airman Recruit, or taking a 4-F on my eye and packing my bags. I thought about it overnight, then got on a bus the next day.
All these years later, I still can't tell you if it was the right decision.
At least YOU tried. There are many, and yes, they work at McDonald's and other fast food resturaunts who gripe about this and that, but won't make the effort.I spent a grand total of 18 days in the Air Force back in 1979.
