The Model T and air cooled Bug both eventually stopped production. Does that mean they were failures?
Both evolved. The 2015 Bug is more feature loaded than my first car a '59 VW Bug. I wish I had that '59 Bug today with an electric retrofit.

PE, "Thank God, I don't think things through", not so funny.

The good news is now Paul Elio has time to plan, there is additional space available at the GM Plant and Shreveport would no doubt welcome the additional jobs. It's all about funding and timing to production, whenever that may be (not 2016).
Just take the number 1000 works to built the engine. from what I have read it appears that was not given much though yet. Even if ELIO could setup a production line to build the engine in record time with all the equipment need. You do not just walk out the door and hire 1000 people walk them in and start training them then go to production. Many companies today it takes 2-6 months before you even get an interview. Back round checks paper work.
I am sure ELIO could trim that down but there is a reason it is done that way. You have to weed out problems before you hire them. Even then a percentage of people you hire will not make it the first week. If you hire 1000 people January 1 2016 by June not all of that 1000 will still be there.
There is money that must be paid starting day one. SS taxes various fees and taxes depending on state a city you are in. At what point will AWU and NRB show up at the door. There will be cost dealing with them and that kind of legal work is not cheap.
Of course it depends on their starting wages payroll and employee cost could be much more than all other productions cost.
Not saying they can't do it, they are going to need a major amount of funds in advance. Cash from sales in the amounts to keep the doors open is not going to roll in right away.
Real small business sometimes get away with robbing peter to pay Paul when they start ,out borrowing on credit cards and from family . ELIO is a little to big for that to work.

interesting ...... a person ask a question and gets an honest answer .... then that person twist the answer by adding their own comments in an effort to prove their point .... from what you report he says it will take an estimated 1,500 workers to build the trike .... he also says the that number doesn't include the number needed to produce the motors .... its a jump from there to saying that the cost for the additional number of folks needed to assemble the engine hasn't been included in EM's business plan .... folks who take the truth and twist it like this make it easy to see why its usually best for EM to not release any info
Apparently, you have trouble 'reading' .... "BAD NEWS -if- Elio's Business plan does not account for the salaries of an additional 1,000 workers!" Just a very valid possibility to consider.... since the CEO did not seem to be aware of it! But then he did not seem to know that the color 'BLUE' was no longer in the voting for the P5's color. PE: "11:50 p.m. EST this evening, July 2. Please vote for red or blue! I don't want white!"
"its usually best for EM to not release any info"; especially if it is not TRUE:
Founder Paul Elio told Red River Radio that 25 prototypes are --under construction-- in Detroit as the company enters into the product testing phase. (Sep 6, 2013)

so what ???? .... presenting what in your opinion is "Just a very valid possibility to consider" is designed to create doubt/uncertainty without any proof that that the circumstances being discussed have any basis in fact .... what if'n can be a fun game but without supporting facts is it nothing more than a that

Perhaps you can provide 'documentation' to the contrary, but if you look at their 'financials' released to Caddo Parrish, -- http://cleantechnica.com/2013/08/19/paul-elio-motors-releases-financials/ --, on sheet 15 they have only ONE slot for "PowerTrain Engineer", and the "New Hires" don't begin until month seven (7), too late for engines in the first Elios. When Paul Elio, himself, admits that his 1,500 workers DOES NOT include the engine assembly; .... doubts SHOULD be raised!

It doesn't sound as though EM has considered the added labor requirements to assemble engines. I ass/u/me/d the 1500 jobs covered all of the startup production and assembly needs to include the engine assembly. Perhaps EM will subcontract the engine assembly with whoever builds the first 25 engines for the P5-30 to maximize the production process. I admit I don't care as long as there are engines available and ready to drop in Elio's rolling down the line as needed to avoid any added delay.

I have personal doubt (a feeling of uncertainty) until I see the actual P5-30. Nothing wrong with doubt until questions are adequately answered to suit individual needs or better yet when I see documented visible/hands on progress. I prefer physical progress over talk, although fairly positive talk of late and members are very upbeat, a good thing.

Past Fanatic, [ Or should I address you as "FUD Master 1"? ] How could a 2013 financials document reflect any cost relating to manufacturing of engines when that was not a part of the plan in 2013. Does your 2013 tax return reflect anticipated income from stock sales in October of 2015?

Debate is positive. Argument/namecalling not so much. meh: Whatever will be, will be. Lets put our butts in THE P5 along with ONE IAV assembled engine and see how things progress from there. I would like to see an ACTUAL IAV engine provide the power to move an ACTUAL Elio. Plenty of time after that major timeline event is documented to plan for a production labor force.
