I don't think i've used a Pep Boys for service since the 90's.

I am proficient enough now in my automotive mechanic skills that aside from alignment, tires and my inspections i can just do it myself.

It is my understanding that Paul Elio already has an agreement with Pep Boys to be the service provider. If Pep Boys got bought out then the buy out agreement should honor the Elio agreement. Any new owner of Pep Boys I would think would love all that future business. Just my 2 cents.

It does seem odd to turn your back on the Elio connection, so I'm gonna state the fact he definitely bought P-Boys BECAUSE of that connection, yeah that's the ticket!

Please re-read the article in a more deliberate manner...

The author indicates there are approximate 800 total Pep Boys locations...but only 500 of them have service center's...the other 300 locations are exclusively retail & wholesale parts outlets...and do not offer service...

Their last 10-Q report indicates that the service centers are loss leaders...

I have been a Pep Boys (PBY) investor for the last 7 years...

On Elio's website the following is stated:

With 800 locations in 35 states and Puerto Rico, Pep Boys will provide Elio Motors customers a full range of service options from one of the most trusted names in the automotive aftermarket.

We are also working with Pep Boys to develop ways of bringing solid service options to Elio owners in areas where Pep Boys stores are not present. As you read this, our guys and theirs are deeply immersed in developing the game plan. So as soon as all the i’s and t’s are dotted and crossed, we’ll go public with the details.

Meanwhile, you can be sure the best interests of Elio owners will be driving every decision."

Also on the ElioMotors website it states:


"We are evaluating some of those options and will certainly have service in place when we launch in 2016. For now, just know that the Pep Boys partnership is a major step forward, as it provides service for 90 percent of our customers."

The term that Elio uses is a partnership. I don't think Elio Motors could make that claim with out it being in writing of some kind. Otherwise known as an agreement.

Unfortunately, You would be incorrect, I just went to the Pep Boys website and here is what I found.

In 1921, four Navy buddies pooled together $800 to open a single auto parts supply store in Philadelphia. This venture would go on to become the multi-billion dollar nationwide retails and service chain that is known as Pep Boys today. With over 800 stores across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, the Company has come a long way from its humble beginnings.

Taken from Pep Boy's website while I was looking for the nearest store. It appears there are 804 across the US and Puerto Rico...So Paul's not misleading anybody with his statement.

In the 5th paragraph of this article, it indicates that of the 800 stores, only 500 provide service. Apparently the other 300 only sell parts. Apprillia states this in post 10 of this thread.
