I bought a Browing BLR 308 back in the mid '60's and its still one of my all time favorites .... the BLR was (to my knowledge) the first to use a rotary bolt that locks into the barrel like a bolt action .... Henry recently came out with a line they call their “Long Ranger” series .... it is patterned after the BLR, clip fed, rotary bolt and weighs about 7 lbs ---- https://www.henryrifles.com/rifles/the-long-ranger/ ----- based on use reports form folks I trust, if I was in the market for a 308, that's the way I'd go

Personally, I'm a fan of the VEPR line of rifles. I would love to get one in 7.62x54R

I've never so much has held one but have no doubt that they certainly offer an impressive line of firearms .... when it comes to being "old school", I'd be more accurately characterized as being "ancient school" .... for me, I favor American Made, traditional style firearms ....

Glad I'm in Indiana.... LIFETIME license to carry handgun !!!(LTCH)
In parts of Indiana you need it; I was born and raised there in East Chicago; even worked at Inland Steel for a year as a Mill right/crane mechanic/pipefitter
I even got to do a round trip on a Ore Boat up to Escanaba.
