I agree with you for a person standing in the back, however, how about a small child or a small object. A rear camera would be a good feature.

Not having a rear view mirror will keep those tailgator head lamps from blinding you. Not to mention the raised/liftted pick up truck headlamps from blinding you. At slow turtle speeds or backing up we need to be looking for children on tri cycles (low height) neighbors dogs/cats (low height), curbs backing up against, lamp posts that were not set back enough form curbs at business parking lots, etc.. We need to see not to back our fine Elio into parallel parked vehicles, need dept perception, need practice. Rear camera good idea, I have not used one yet. Someone mentioned infared, nice to see backing up at night. Elio mentioned option 3d side view mirrors or similar. That sounds good to me. Surely we all want to see backing out of shopping mall parking spaces or supermarket parking lots. You all that have used cameras do they have sonar for those vehicles in parking lots that come out of nowhere to warn you? Backingup at night or darkness will there be a normal or above normal back up light? All the decuission on no rearviw mirror will the two side view mirrors have electric adjustable positioning 4 way tabs or a manual interior handle? Been some good posingst from the future Elio owners. Fun to ponder, hunt for the what ifs, fun to research until the specs sheets are written. The Elio team is doing good for us.

Actually, given how close the two side mirrors are to each other, I suspect they will each aim one headlight from the car behind you directly into your eyeballs.
We may end up needing some sort of dual surface mirrors to cut the glare.

My exact thoughts Brian. Have a day/night switch for the side views...or a rear mounted paintball gun (sorry, different thread  , but funny at the time!)

I currently leave my side mirrors pointed down a tad just for that reason and have gotten used to lowering my head when needing to view out of them.

Or you could, you know...adjust them properly! Unlike 90% of the population that has their outside mirrors reflect MOSTLY their own darn car!:eek:o_O

I had the pleasure of seeing P4 for the first time last weekend. My $6800 expectations were far exceeded. I tried searching the site for some clues on my questions - but wasn't able to get exactly what I was looking for. So I ask... On the P4, I noticed - and not sure if others did, that the side mirrors were very small - likely limiting rear visibility. Especially for an enclosed auto-cycle. Hope the engineers rethink this - and also incorporate a blind spot detection alerting system to light up when the blind spot is occupied. Any idea if larger side mirrors and blind spot alerting would even be available?

Also, with no rear view mirror, I for one would like to see a "full time" rear view camera in place of the nonexistent rear view" mirror. Not sure others would, but I would go for it.

Still very much looking forward to getting mine.
