If the number of the $1000 all-in folks who walk away leaving their $1000 on the table is more than 5% after subtracting deaths, I'd be shocked.

agree .... with so many people involved it would be logical to believe that some number may experience some unexpected financial, health or other issues which would prevent them from purchasing .... I tend to believe that will not be a large number of folks with reservations

I think that those who only look at the 36K total reservations, or the 11K "all in @ $1K...are not "thinking" about the bigger picture. I seem to recall the fact that EM has a staff member whose job is: FLEET SALES. Do I think that person is just sitting around doing nothing? Absolutely NOT! Let's look at just ONE facet of the "potential fleet market...The (close to) 100K municipalities in this country. Meter readers, warrant servers, building inspectors, Fire marshals, Etc, Etc, Etc. And then there are the Corporations... Just because EM is not supplying us with those numbers doesn't mean nothing is happening.

.Anyone else have ideas (or knowledge) of businesses that can (or will) benefit from the Elio?

On the new Elio web page click on the fleet sales tab. The last time I looked they listed four companies.

....and for the record, I am dubious that the fraction of those genuinely committed at any reservation level correlates with income better than with what I view as the true cause - risk tolerance. I think folks who put down $100 will buy Elio's when they become available at the same rate as those who put down more. What people put down reflects what they could afford to lose and their personal confidence that Elio would happen.

I have struggled in my own mind with the way that Elio Motors has handled the reservations. From a business perspective I see the logic of giving the highest dollar reservationists special rights in the delivery order - EM needed the cash to get this going and to attract it they needed to offer something in return. From a equitability perspective I think that this is unfair and that purchase order should be set in order of reservations regardless of level. I myself would have felt much more comfortable if $100 got each of us our place in line.

I actually like the $1,000 because it allows me to reduce the price by that much. I am also saving some every month to also go to my Elio down payment. I hope to double that $1,000 by the time my Elio is available. Every month I add to that savings account gives me a sense of power. It is also preparing me for the monthly payments I will have after I get my Elio. :-) Z

So because you took kick backs you assume everyone else did or does? I did all the ordering for many of my jobs when I worked and I never got kick be a pen with the company logo on it but it was always a cheap pen that never lasted long. I think you are reacting to your own guilt. I didn't even see the article as suggestive. I only saw it as information. I'm glad someone got a job, if only a temporary one, who is local rather than being brought in from another state. :) Z
This isn't about guilt, it's just the way the business world works & if you don't believe that, then you must have your head in the sand! As for my kick backs...some I did get to keep & some I donated to charity, but most went as work incentives (I loved giving employees cool stuff for a job well done) & I definitely have no guilt over that!
I NEVER SAID ANYONE DID ANYTHING WRONG...I merely said the way the article was written, with very little detail, gave it an air of inpropriety & made it sound like a conflict of interest! I'm not saying it was or wasn't! As for kick backs...it's so commonplace in business, that they've extended it to everyday life! Ever heard of a "rewards program" at any retailer? That's them giving you a kick back for doing business with them...the more you spend, the more "rewards/kickbacks" you get! If you spent $100,000/yr with a company & all they gave you was crappy pens, then I'm guessing they had poor customer service & low customer retention! Good companies take care of their customers! When you get a "10% off your next visit"...kick back for repeat business! Before rewards programs & before becoming a procurement specialist, I was ignorant to how much kick backs run the business world too, but when I had a massive budget, companies would throw kick backs at me to try & get repeat business! Just like your gas station, grocery store & department stores ALL do now! Oh, airline miles...kick back! Motels do it too! Do you feel guilty getting that $.03/gal kick back when you use your "rewards" card at the pump?
I should've known this would get twisted & all blown out of proportion!

This question is an ethical one and therefore has no right answer, though it sure does make for some great discussion. Let's face it - conflicts of interest, real or imagined, are omnipresent in human affairs. Guys and gals get out of the military with 20 years of experience and where do they go to work? For defense contractors, of course. Conflict of interest? Perhaps. On the other hand, if we want our defense contractors to be staffed with people who have the expertise needed in this highly specialized field instead of noobs, what other choice do we have? Lobbyists and elected officials. Teachers and textbook writers. Realtors and, um, other realtors.

Let's give this guy a break huh? He's wearing an f'ing orange vest not a pinstripe suit. If he orchestrated this deal knowing all he'd get would be orange vest and the chance to earn a few bucks inventorying equipment, he is the world's biggest combination of stunning visionary and utter knucklehead.

Everyone in that town who voted for this is hoping to get a job there and, if not for themselves, then for a kid or a neighbor. This community was devastated when that plant closed. They have a lot more at stake than my $1000 and I for one am standing here cheering for the guy. Heck, in my book he could commit buggery in the cafeteria with consenting adults and if it yielded jobs for 1,500 Americans, a $6800 trike getting 84 mpg, and a supply chain rooted here, I'd still cheer.

If his vision was for people who never could afford a car then he's already lost the battle.
I'll bet there isn't one reservation of the 36000 that don't already have a car.
Be interesting to hear for someone who says they can't afford a car and don't have one now explain how they are going to pay for the Elio.
Paul knows you don't make big money or produce a car off poor people.
Again, you're being a Wayne, and only reading what you want to see. I didn't say people who couldn't afford a car, I said "new car". Meaning the income level who drive around in gas gusseling clunkers. But feel free to "Wayne up" my comments to suit your responses.
