Oil analysis might be worthwhile on a motor with no history to rely on. It's not gonna save money on oil really, as a sample will cost about as much, but it might catch something going snafu before it's too late.

If you REALLY need a tach to know you're over revving, even a big tach won't save you all the time. My ship is coming in. Elio dummy proof rev limiters. Nice safe 2500 rpm limit. No over rev fears. Call Me Now! :D
