If a component is offered by a company that stamps their name on it, who cares who the mfg is.
Macro scale: How about all the cars Mazda and Mitsubishi mfg for Ford and Chrysler? "Ford" and "Chrysler", and their respective vehicle model names are plastered on those vehicles instead of the...
Installing a turbo and integrating a turbocharger are very different. An $800 turbo does no good without proper tuning ($$$), and a properly sized intercooler ($).
If the complete, integrated turbo system is $800, I'd give it serious thought; if it's a factory option, I'll pull the trigger...
Betamax was killed by Sony's price point; it was far superior to VHS.
Also, Sony unfortunately priced MiniDisc out of the market. MD is by far the best format for compact audio. MP3 quality simply sucks by comparison (assuming comparable levels of compression). I have portable and home MD...
For lower boost levels, you could use one of those 'electric turbos' they sell on ebay for $19.95. :p Don't they claim huge gains?? Might be able to double Elio's power with one of those. ;)
Just looking at the poll header
Continental has a digital dash in their lineup, assuming it will be used in the Elgin application. Should be easy to change the programming later, unless the model they use is hard-coded.
I don't know if you could get it to hwy speed using the starter motor. The starter, wiring, or battery would likely catch fire before you exhaust the battery's capacity.
That's the only way to gauge the electric powered range on the Elio.
From what I remember reading about the IAV engine, it'll be sequentially injected, and the VVT is only 3 position, which adjusts both intake and exhaust +/0/- since it is a SOHC.
There are several threads already dealing with this. Search search search.
It all depends on the CR. I read the IAV will be a high compression engine; which is not conducive to any forced induction, unless you like turning pistons into gravel. I haven't seen any data on the actual CR...
Sorry, but I don't think he gives a sh!t. It's his vehicle design, not yours. If you want to design a vehicle - do it. Reach for the stars.
How is the Elgin dash different from the early Toronado dashes? Yes, yes, rotated 90* but the same idea. Didn't see people gettin' killed left 'n'...
They should get great cost to value on both. Most components are off the shelf parts; meaning no new, expensive design and tooling work.
Labor will be relatively cheap if they keep the unions out, and utilize lean mfg philosophy.
I doubt there's a vehicle out there that attains the claimed mfg or EPA fuel economy. They get their economy data by driving slower than real world speeds (whatever speed is the most efficient for the engine/trans/gearing setup), on a treadmill in an environment that is controlled (i.e. large...
Prob not many in at $1k will drop out, but I bet lots that are at the $100 level, refundable or not, will opt out for various reasons. All reservations combined contribute to the 1st year production number, not just the $1k all-ins.
$6800 plus $$ for options.
Reservation $$ means nothing. Once they reach the 1st year production number, the reservations will stop, then be issued as those that have a reservation opt out.
The Elio won't be classified as a motorcycle by the time it's released. Even if it is classified an autocycle, helmets won't be required. New legislation is being developed in most states to accommodate the Elio, and the others like it that will follow.
Try to think through your statement...
