Elio is 16" longer with a 10" wider track than my current car. It also has a wheelbase that is 20" longer. My car is about 5" taller, though.
Having said that, my car does have 105 more horsepower than the Elio.

I don't think most people see the switch to unibody as a bad thing. It's going to be more rigid, safer in a crash, and easier to build (properly). Personally, I was thrilled to see the switch to unibody.
The only people I can imagine who would prefer a tubular frame would be motorcycle...
The only time I had a throttle stick was a mechanical system. Even thought that particular engine didn't have a throttle plate (diesel), a throttle plate can stick whether it is mechanical or electronic. In fact, there are more failure points on a mechanical system than an electronic one...
Not me. I've had cables stretch, bind up, and break. I've never had a problem with an electronic throttle. Either way, it wouldn't be a difference in whether I buy the Elio or not... But I think an electronic throttle is the better way to go.

What kind of cars have you tried? Im 6'2" and 250 lbs. Three of my last four cars were compact (VW Golf), subcompact (Scion/Toyota xD)? And city car (Fiat 500). My head never got close to hitting the roof. The closest was the xD, but there was still some room.
I am tall in the "trunk"...
I think the usual solution would be different pistons. You'd want oil-cooled pistons, anyway... Not sure if the Elio engine has them in stock format.
Another thing is turbo cooling. The turbo on my Abarth is cooled by engine coolant. There is a pump that keeps circulating coolant to the...
A few things about turbocharging...
First, many turbocharged engines have a lower compression ratio than their normally aspirated brethren. For instance, the normally aspirated Fiat 500 1.4L engine has a 10.8:1 ratio, while the 500 Abarth turbo model has a 9.8:1 ratio.
As far as power...
Do you really believe this? Seatbelts keep you IN the vehicle during a crash. Airbags, as mentioned by others, slow your deceleration to reduce bodily damage.
Without a seatbelt, people often slide off of an airbag, making them much less effective.
But to answer your question, the...
Not 'every' modern vehicle. With hatchbacks and wagons, they have gotten nervous about having a handle that some kid could use to exit the vehicle while going down the highway. My 1998 Benz wagon did have a latch on the inside of the hatch because there were rear facing seats, so it counted as...
Is it just old rumor, or is it true that EM was saying that reservation holders would either need to pick up at the factory or arrange shipping?

It seems there are a lot of people who can't remember which side of the car the gas tank is on. They probably open the trunk half the time when they go to check the oil, too! Heehee!

I can't remember owning a car that had the fuel door on the driver's side. My sprinter van does... But none of my cars. But then, I've only owned about 12 cars.

I think the OP was being a bit sarcastic, but there also seems to be quite a disconnect these days between the poor, middle class, and the wealthy. Any time I hear a politician say "middle class" it seems that they are actually addressing the working poor.
But, if the OP was being serious...
At least the OP should be happy that the Elio will cost so much less than the Metro that an engine replacement or two won't be a big deal! In 1990, a Metro sold for about $7,000. Corrected for inflation, that would be about $13,500 in today's dollars.

I believe ATVM is simply a loan guarantee, not a loan itself. Any money going out would be provided by a bank, and gov't money would only be involved if Elio failed to pay back the loan. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
