Another good answer I've missed to take into consideration! The introduction of the P5 with it's pre-production engine for AIV will be EM's biggest advertising ammo to showcase to the world by far- taking it to the streets of America- but first thing first- it'll be at the LA Auto Show! EM should let Car & Driver Magazine testers take it for a spin so they can feature it in their Dec. issue! Now that would be something, would it?
If they were going to feature it in December they'd need to drive it in Sept / early October.

The least expensive new vehicle sold in the US (by MSRP) is the Nissan Versa; it sells for $12, 815
Do you really think you'll get off the car lot for that much?
Here a list of the least expensive vehicles sold in the US for 2015

http://cars.about.com/od/toppicks/ss/Least-Expensive-Cars.htm#step1

Paul has also said repeatedly in interviews when asked about the Elio's price "1/2 the car, 1/2 the parts, 1/2 the price"
Going on that formula the least expensive car is $13,600; looks pretty close to me.
I agree. Done right, I wouldn't mind paying that much for our ELIO! I did however got the price "I want" for my 1999 Toyota Corolla stick shift when Toyota dealer enticed me to see this "only one at this price" brand new ( car dealers use this ploy in newspaper ads to bring in more potential buyer who then is suckered to pay for the price the dealer wants.) Went to the dealership and was greeted by the salesperson who I spoke too and told me the car is not available anymore and started talking me into looking at other models- upset, I told him to direct me to same model, stick shift and give me the price you quoted or I'm going to report it to BBB for false advertising. Scared, he found the car way back in the car lot hidden from the buyers and sold it for the quoted price! It's still running with 259k miles on it, driving it everyday.

Comments regarding the Wildfire...

Sir I do believe I am going to have to ask you to step out your simply too big for this ride :D.

The Wildfire. pffshaw. The only Wildfire near that thing is the one that starts when oversized ass tilts it near tall dry grass.

Do the Chinese just not get how much taller and bigger we are in this country ?

I'd have to steer that thing with the inside of my knees :D

It's the closest thing out there really, 3 wheeled sub $8000 enclosed vehicle, find me something closer to the Elio in the U.S. right now..
Like I said, one is made in China w/ cheap labor w/out much amenities and safety features and our ELIO w/c will be American made w/ American labor, airbags, am/fm radio, seatbelts, air conditioning and 5 star ratings for $6,800! Even the Chinese makers can't get that low! That's why it's a big question mark if EM can deliver it for that price! We're all certainly hoping, dreaming, drooling that they could and that remains to be seen. In my previous post, I found one American made HD entry level motorcycle for $6,849 msrp! And it's a motorcycle!!

On the premise of this thread, public belief is the primary reason there aren't 240k reservations right now. The second one is the short term self-interest of survival. Many people don't trust it until they see it, most in person. Even at $7600, the max on the SEC submission, there will be above huge popularity for the Elio, when you can test drive it. And all 240k of us will honk at them with our 1 year old Elio's, and a smile!

'Been promoting our ELIO to my family and friends and even providing them the website but here's what I get for feedback: it starts with a laugh and then telling me after they've been to the website that they do believe it's not a scam but it will not sell for that base price (not including the taxes, licenses, dist. charges, etc.), it will not even be close because they say it's MADE IN AMERICA!!! Everything is expensive to produce a product here with American salaries, insurances, liabilities, etc.- they went further to say yes, it's possible if it's made in China or other 3rd world countries where LABOR is cheap! They went on to say that investors and lenders needs to make money and quick return will not be forth coming with the $6,800 target price that EM has been advertising- but yet in their website all seems to be no problem as it says the ELIO is coming in 2016? I know it can be done and made here in America with good old American sweat and with the amount of funding in place, it is entirely possible, the final price could be EM's biggest achievement or it's downfall if it's not met for those of us that was promised an affordable "and" transportation for the masses! 'Just my 1 cent.

Here's my 1 cent 3wheelin! :croc:

Other than the idea that Elio has said it's a must have to get the price as close to $6800 as possible, and one recent formal document from Elio mentioned "no more than $7600"...

1) Elio Motors is meeting regularly with suppliers. This allows both Elio and the parts suppliers to work together towards an idea of less cost for components. Paul has told a story many times, when he worked for a car company many years ago, he met with a part supplier and asked them to move a hole (or a bolt, I can't remember) 1 inch, and Paul's company would save X cents for Paul's new design. Part supplier basically said "up yours", we're not changing it. That's not happening with Elio's suppliers; they are collaborating (wow, what a great idea!) and working together so that you don't have problems like Paul experience years ago.

2) Another thing: Elio isn't charging for a bunch of extras that you may not want. If you want extras, you pay only for what you want, one item at a time. You don't have to get the "EX" package for $2800 that has 7 other things in it that may sound nice but you really don't want. Hopefully we won't have to pay for floor mats for the Elio too, but that's up in the air... lol. And it is true that the base price does not include automatic transmission. *gasp for effect*

3) A personal observation: car companies have us trained to believe that a price of $13,000 is really inexpensive for the smallest of 4-wheel vehicles. If (and it's a big if) a TV commercial shows a base price for a vehicle, for example $22,000, they show you a model with all the extras, and put it in tiny small lettering for 4 seconds that "actual car shown is $33,790". More and more commercials show a lease payment rather than a purchase payment, because the lease payment is less money. Not very many people do a lease, it doesn't make sense for but a small % of people. Loans are regularly given now for 6 year terms. My point is: how do WE know that a vehicle that is 1 person wide instead of 2.5 people wide, can't be sold for around $7000 and still give the maker a profit margin?
