So why do I drive 10,000 miles per car per year? I usually drive 40,000 miles per year and many of our members drive twice that. So, 400kwh is just not going to do it for most of us.:confused:

The 400 kwh is for the free supercharge electrons, and one can always purchase more. The "free" supercharging for new Tesla's is over and I do understand that no one rides for free.

40K or 80k miles a year driving is not the norm. I do understand if it does not work for you, then purchase something else. Nice to have many new, and existing choices..

"According to Tesla's research, 400 kWh is enough to power one of its cars for 1,000 miles and can cover the driving needs of most owners for a whole year.

What???? :):):):):):):):):)

With my current driving habits, 400kWh would get me 1400-1600 miles in my Volt pretty easily (3.5 - 4 miles/kWh). 1000mi/400kWh=2.5mi/kWh doesn't sound that good to me. Must be all those Ludicrous Mode jack-rabbit starts!

I would think a model 3 would average between 3.5 to 5 miles per kwh. Not all Tesla's have Ludicrous mode, and none a gas engine...

Both my wife (lead-foot) and me (gentler) average 4 kwh/mile in the Leaf. I would be surprised if Tesla could beat that, but if the Model 3 can then all the power to them :)

I think you meant 4 miles/kwh.... Central Hudson in NY 13 cents KWH

haha yeah, I meant miles per kwh.
What does 4 kwh cost you?
I would have to average it out across the two rates charged by the power company, but best guess is around 10 cents/kwh. So if you compare to a gas car, I get about 40 miles for $1, versus $2.80+ for a gallon of gasoline in a 40mpg car. Seeing as our PT Cruiser only gets 22mpg, I'm saving significantly compared to that machine. (Aside from the fact that it is fully owned, and I'm still paying off the Leaf :p )
