I think your correct. That may be a good reason for a run flat tire.

Run flats require air pressure to work properly. They just give you a limp home mode. The downside for that limited capability is they ride harsh and are expensive. No thanks on both counts for me.

The harsh ride was true of early runflats, not now. I ran non-runflat snow tires this past winter, and now summer wheels on with runflats. Ride quality is the same. I expected mpg to suffer with heavier runflats on, that did not happen. Winter and summer tires are the same size. Wheels are the same(just different color). Expensive? Not compared to the non runflat snow tires I bought.
