ATVM loans (like many federal, state and local) are for products that are ready to be built in large numbers. So, Elio needs a car that is production ready and meets their claims and the ATVM loan requirements. So far, three engineering cars is all that anyone in the public has seen. Elio already promised 20+ Engineering cars so they can validate their claims. Unless Elio can get the specs they claimed to get market acceptance and the ATVM loan requirements, they will never get the loan.

Remember, Elio got everyone excited about 84mpg, 5 star crash rating and $6,800. That convinced many. 84mpg turned into up to 84 mpg, 5 star crash rating turned into highest safety standards and $6,800 has turned into a targeted $7,450. All of this while the ATVM loan process was going on, Elio has changed the specs. Top it off, the production date has been changed a number of times (another spec that has changed).

Elio needs to get this whole validation and certification done. That way, their claims are real and not exaggerated. Then DoE then shouldn't have a problem with giving them the loan. Remember, this is a loan and it needs to get paid back. You can't do that if the car you sold everyone doesn't meet the specs. If it doesn't, they will turn on you and within a year you'll be bankrupt and the taxpayer on the hook. I doubt that anyone here wants that to happen.
Best post of the year so far.

Paul has said in several of his interviews that the ATVM is one of many ways to fund Elio, but he isn't counting on that being the sole thing that gets them up and running.
Yeah, I heard that quite a few times too and, strangely enough, every time I heard it...
I had a sensation of warm smokey air blowing up around my butt cheeks.

It's getting close to crunch time.
Does Paul want to make a pitiful few million and see this thing built...
Or does he want to be a hated coulda-shoulda-woulda with a few high-security speaking engagements and an autobiography?

In his opinion they would be built by the engineers, supervisors and such. Basically by management. Then that small group of management would train the workforce for the real thing.
That is the way it will be done and the way it should be done. Bring in the entire engineering and management staff for "Hell Week". Management and the engineering will experience all aspects of the production process so they can all be experienced in everything, big and little. The production process can be tuned quickly because the key people will be present. Then a select group can train the new hires.

How many people are employed by Elio full time? It's not uncommon for smaller companies and start ups to have everyone chip in at the beginning but you sure can't expect Betty from Accounting or Joe from HR to be the ones you want out doing anything but their job. I've worked with companies that make high end fishing reels and they have 30 - 35 full time people just to pull that off.

Thing is, if you are to build 100 cars, then you pretty much need a test assembly line set up that mimics the real production line but in a much smaller footprint. What this means is Elio would have to have already engineered the whole assembly line by now and the car is ready to be built. At this point, without the 20+ engineering cars that have certified and tested your design, you can't go to building the 100 cars.

What I read is plenty of sticking the cart before the horse. Last thing you want to do is that.

Thought I would contact EM and this is what I ask.

Thank you for your time,
How many e series vehicles:
1 have been made,
2 in product evaluation,
3 to be evaluated,
4 time frame to production of fleet.

Curious as to their response, this should give us the the time frame they have white boarded.
Being optimistic.

And what they'll reply is "we can't release that information to you"

"Check our blog each week to keep up with new news"

Thank you,

At least three of them are getting $250,000/yr = $750,000.
Even if the rest of them were only working for less than the median wage...

Let's just say something ridiculous like $40K/yr.
I seriously doubt that their only making that..
$40,000 x 32 people= $1.28M per year.
Add that up and that's over $2M/yr
$2Million x 8years = $16Million.
Just for the internal salaries.

Now consider that most of the real engineering work was shopped out.

Not making any judgements here, just the facts ma'am.
