Most of us on here are guys.I live in Houston so I'll probably pick it up in Shreveport if I can save on the shipping charge. The approximately 4 hour trip back home on highway 59 should provide a chance to vary the speed enough for an initial break in.
Now, all you guys planning on those long trips. Maybe it's just me but I see a catch 22 with Elios and cross country travel. Sure, on a long trip is when you get the greatest benefit from the high gas mileage, but it's also when you are likely to be carrying the most luggage. Elios are not designed to carry large suit cases and other bulky luggage. So, when you could use it to most advantage is when it is least suited. Also, I'm not sure how comfortable a passenger will be in the back, looking at the read of the driver's seat for hours on end.
What Elios will need for real travel is a way of carrying more luggage. I can see several ways to accomplish this.
1. A fixed luggage rack on the lower hatch lid like is found on many sports cars.
2. A detachable luggage carrier that fits on the lower hatch lid with some kind of a clip and snaps system. This could be either a hard shell or the fabric kind made of nylon like a back pack. (we have the nylon type for our Xterra and it is both functional and economical).
3. A small trailer.
4. Finally, and the most unlikely, an "insert" for the rear luggage compartment. You would remove the rear hatch cover and install a hard shell compartment which would fit over the luggage area and go up as high as the roof of the car. In the rear would be a door for access. This is kind of like a camper on a pickup. Making it water tight where it fits in the car would be the biggest potential problem, not to mention looking weird as hell....

Well, you've got to remember, I'm planning on driving The Dragon... You never know what I may encounter!A couple pairs of underwear? What? You planning a 2-week trip?
The dragon can easily ruin both pair in just one pass through it !
Folks go hiking for extended periods of time needing to carry EVERYTHING ,food, water,stove, pot/pans, bedding, etc in a pack that admittingly might not fit in the E, but with proper planning and needs minimized by not needing many items, one (or two) could easily cover many miles with motels, washing machine,and dinners available. Amazing, and I thought I was one of the only people that does that. When I was doing long distance rides on the bike (Motorcycle not pedal) I had a radio on the bike and never used it, same goes for my cars/trucks I never turn it on unless I get stuck in traffic; then it's just to see if I can find the cause of the stoppage. In the shop, no windows, and only play recorder music, and no clocks; I don't want to know time of day when I'm working on a custom project. I work till I'm tired, or until I just stuck and have to walk away for a while. When I'm riding; either on bike or car; I want to enjoy the sounds of the road and the wind.It just goes to show how different people are. I've been an audiophile for over 40 years, yet I don't listen to music in the car.... can't even remember the last time I turned on the car radio. And as to using a laptop, forget it. If I even look down at a map for more than 10 seconds in a moving car I start to get car sick. It's amazing how fast it happens.
