Perhaps a collision avoidance system should be an Elio option.

How would this collision avoidance system work??
Would it take over control of the vehicle??
Sometimes acceleration is the way to avoid a collision.
This is a serious question.
Old saying from when I worked at Bell Labs...........
To err is human..... To really screw things up requires a computer!

I agree. At my age, I prefer climbing 'up' into a vehicle, and 'down' to exit one - i.e. a pick up truck or a high SUV. I'd definitely need a grab handle on the pillar/roof line to exit my Elio with ease. Perhaps an aftermarket add-on or an accessory from the factory? I wouldn't ask others to pony up the $ for one of these if they wouldn't want/need one.
I agree. The ease of entry/exit, driving/seating comfort, and overall handling is criteria I need before plunking down cash for an Elio or any other vehicle that can only be determined by a test drive. I eagerly await the E series ride and drive events so I can determine it's a go Elio or be forced to find a more suitable funride to meet my needs.

Many makes of vehicles currently on the market have crash avoidance systems.

and sell for $6800.00?
No to a $6800 base, but as an option for those on the extreme safety minded end of the range worried about head on collisions, both low speed in town or high speed driving situations.

I'm eager to see the P5 driving at highway speeds and stop with the only assist being the driver's foot on the brake pedal.

o.k then I agree with your option but have for myself Zero interest.
When i the E happens and in the quantity expected, there will be many vendors jumping in offering things we haven't thought of? Safari bar/with lights , racks for everything, tire sales- buy Two get one free, tow hooks, backup camera, headlight washers, Probably been mentioned here, my long-term memory is fading....

Infinity has already run into problems with their avoidance system; it was reading a chain link fence as another vehicle and would stop the car.
It was people that have fencing around their parking stalls that found this; it wouldn't let them pull in to the stall.

I'd like to know is; where is the ON/OFF switch? The ESC in my Dodge's has ON/OFF (mine is always in the OFF position) so what can't an avoidance system have one?

I think the idea for the avoidance system is good, but don't think it's completely ready for a majority of current drivers.

I'm interested in the off-center head on and the T-bone tests; I think those two test will be the most important when it comes to the Elio.
They are able to do a frontal crush zone but they don't have enough side room for it.

And I truly hope they use different age group and disability when they do the ergo testing.
I know when I sat in the P4 getting in, and seating was no problem; but it can really use a grab handle at the top of the A-pillar or at least somewhere on the A-pillar for exiting the vehicle.
It was thinking about on the door at first, but all you would do is pull the door in on yourself.

When you got to sit in it, was there anyone there official to talk to or give suggestions to, or even just answer questions? PE? Or was it just hired help shuffling people through it so everyone could sit in it?
