Did anyone notice that Takata is no longer on the supplier list on the about/possible webpage at eliomotors.com? Hmmm. Aside from their sordid history, I find the basic design of the typical airbag troubling. The concept is "So you are going to plant your face in in steering wheel or dash, huh? Well, then, we'll just punch you on the face first!"
This is in contrast to the Amsafe design in which the airbag inflates away from your face but still cushions your face plant before it gets there.

Teenage Driver Dies in Texas After Takata Airbag Ruptures in Crash

By HIROKO TABUCHI APRIL 6, 2016

    • Senator Bill Nelson, Democrat of Florida, said in a statement that the death showed that current recall efforts were falling short.

“Takata and the automakers have to step up their efforts to locate, notify and fix every impacted car as soon as possible — before anyone else dies,” he said.

Apparently, multiple notices were sent out for that particular car. I imagine there are a lot of folks out there who are ignoring recall notices on any number of vehicles for any number of reasons. I imagine I'd feel pretty f-ing bad if I ignored a safety recall and then one of my kids died in an accident as a result.
