It wasn't a musical car event, but the Barrett Auction in Palm beach, E M had a great corner spot, near the cars lining up to be auctioned,
There were a great many other venders, and a few builders/modifiers, accessories, tires, toys, all things automotive, folks were drawn to the loud, hi revs of cars not being auctioned, but sold privately. Many had to walk past the E both, and for the time I spent (about 1-1 1/2 hrs) a glance and a smile, was more common then interest. I was able to sit, ask, touch, and talk to other future owners, and just a very few who were being exposed to the concept for the first time. Of course that's just a very small time frame, surrounded by car enthusiasts some with very deep pockets.
In Jacksonville, in a Mall, on the other hand there were long lines, greater interest, and many more curious question asking folks.
But that's just my take- was easy to spot other reservationists, many had on their "Ts"!

The people you are talking about (merely gave a glance and smile) may be the same type of people who go to auto shows like the NY and LA auto shows. This would explain why there was no large jump in reservations.

It appears the people who do make reservations do not go to auto shows.

Something else I noticed at the show is that the back seat doesn't fold down level. It actually folds down about 15-20 degrees past horizontal. Didn't think to ask if it would be that way on the production model.

As I understand, the money is needed to go into production and EM has the money to get that far. Perhaps the DOE is waiting until that point when EM needs the money to progress any farther. There will be more information at that point to support giving the money to EM. As I said, EM doesn't need the money until then.
EM has the money to build and test 25 E-vehicles. They MAY have (or can lay hands upon) the money to build the 100 lease pre-production vehicles. The do NOT yet have the money to prep for full production. Estimated cost of that is about $200 million more than they now have. The ATVM loan guarantee should provide $185 million of the $200 million still needed. Additional stock sales and additional loans based on the book value of reservations are expected to raise the remainder.

Book value of reservations (the order book, if you will) is worth at least $391 million at this point, assuming an actual average sales price (including some options) of $7,500. The reality may in fact be a higher average sales price, but $7,500 is conservative.

As the "order book" continues to grow, and its value to increase, the probability of getting additional funding also increases. The old rule still holds: people lend money to people who HAVE money ... or substantial assets. The "order book" is an asset. Because it's so large, DOE will be encouraged to loan the money.

So, to sum up yet again:

The DOE wants to back winners and doesn't want to lose any more biggies. They will be convinced Elio's a winner by two things: the proof-of-performance (real world car and real test protocols) and the financial viability of the company. EM is well on the way to getting this done. pray the get it done before the current administration leaves town.

I'm about all in, but here is some of the info I got:

Takata is NOT the airbag supplier. Didn't have the new name handy.
DOE loan is waiting on "proof of concept". Said they will meet that by end of the year.
No word on a HotWheels model.
2 speakers on the dash. Any others will be options ( if made available)
Power assist steering /option
Cruise control/ option
Car cover/ possible option
Belly pan/ unknown
Headlights will not be daytime running lights.
And it's not known which headlight will be on the production model. (P5/creamcicle front clip)

More to follow tomorrow evening. G'nite all.

Thanks for all the information Tex! Appreciate it.

Question: what do you mean about the P5 / creamsicle front clip headlight?

Card stock is 4" wide, doing a quick ratio from the phone, dial is 3.125". Blow the picture up, you should get a better perspective.

Top speed with P5 has been 88 mph on a test track, 81 mpg has been attained. It's going back to Detroit to get the real exhaust put in place. E's are under construction, and should be finished in June. As Marshall has mentioned, it is roughly 400 lbs overweight, but the E's will be on target. I thought the shifter and clutch peddle had the right feel from what I was expecting.

We got there about an hour after they opened, and there was already quite the crowd milling about. Seemed like lots of interest, when we left about an hour later, the crowd had gotten much larger.

Can't say enough about the tour team, they are all very friendly and excited about Elio!

After my 1st visit with an Elio, my enthusiasm has not waned, and I want it more than ever!

Thanks for the info KD!

Can you talk more about "Top speed with P5 has been 88 mph on a test track, 81 mpg has been attained..."

I would think that Elio Motors would be publicizing this information if achieved. I believe that these things happened if they say they did, but why isn't EM going public with this? There's probably good reasons, I just can't think of them.

I did get actual measurements of the dash. I sent them to Coss, and will post them if anyone else wants them.

Here's a good one: they expect better results with the E-seriess cars. Top speed is particularly an issue -- they've been promising 100+ and 88 is way off that mark. I think they'd want another run at it with an E-series car. They've known for a long time that they would get 81 mpg, but I'm sure Paul would like to squeeze that extra mpg or two out of it before trumpeting the news.
