I thought the same thing.
I feel like I'm busier now than when I was working; but I do take longer breaks, and naps, and taking days off, and no weekends (well, sometimes).
I retired 9-2013

I was watching a show on building Audi's in Germany; they mentioned on the assembly the range or positions the workstations were at to be "age designed". There they don't fire the old guys, they let them work as long as they want; they want the experience they bring with them. I wish that more companies here did that rather than firing the "old guys"; they haven't learned to appreciate the talent and experience the older people bring with them, to even teach the younger workers. <sign> And it's in almost every industry here; but there is hope; the newest hiring swing is to "find the people that know how to do this and hire them, the new people can't do the work".

A friend of mine worked almost 30 years for the same giant chemical company without a problem. About a year before retirement they "laid him off".... along with several other guys about his age. No benefits and no pension. He said they also save money by hiring a young guy to do his job for less pay.

I'm glad I never worked for a big Corp.....

Yes. I was thinking about all the "scam" comments while watching this; if it was a scam, it would have to go down in history as the most detailed, elaborate and expensive scam ever conceived.

Let's look at the bright side. If this turns out to be a scam it will make for the most interesting episode of "American Greed" ever produced. :crazy:

No doubt this is the real deal. But then again so was the Tucker. Though both Preston Tucker and Paul are super innovators. The Tucker didn't cover enough of the bases. I'm possibly most impressed by Paul's foresight and care to assure compliance with already existing technologies. Manufacturing a complete car from independent established component manufacturers throughout is quite unique in and of itself. It will result in an economy of production, future ease serviceability, and no-nonsense assured quality of the end result. Yes I think we'll have a whole new paradigm if this thing starts to roll. Paul's also shows great foresight and guts to be honest with the economy of numbers calculations too. I just hope Paul's economy of numbers is correct because if it's correct the shear number of sales at some point will create its own momentum to an immeasurable paradigm of enthusiasm. This whole idea's got the finger prints of a gifted engineer written all over it.

I'm having much the same thing happen to me right now. We were bought out last November, and the new owners have made the positions of me and a number of the other older guys very untenable, looking to make us quit. It's a long story, but they're real peaches to work for. :(:mad:

OK, We've heard from people who were "screwed" by big corporations and I know that it happens. But it doesn't always happen that way.
I retired from Texas Instruments in 2006 after putting in 41 years, with a very nice retirement package. Since then I am working much harder than I ever did, but enjoying it much more because I'm doing what I want.
Basically I get paid to look at airplanes. It doesn't get much better than this. The only negative side is I no longer get off evenings, weekends, holidays, I don't accrue vacation days and I report to the Federal Guberment. On the plus side, I could quit tomorrow if I wanted.

Mel, I'm REALLY glad to hear that! In my case, it wouldn't have been this way if our previous parent company had kept our division. They were the best big operation I ever worked for.
Unfortunately, many good companies like OLD DuPont were well run and employee friendly until the older generation passed on. The kids just listen to their financial advisors who spin the plants off to those who are in it to squeeze the last dime out of assets and could care less who they hurt doing it.
