How is this even a comparison? Holy crap dude!

In case you can't read ..... there was no 'comparison' made. I simply asked a question. A concept some are inept to interpret.
From my first post: "If they can attain 258mpg, why is there a problem netting 84??" i.e. if VW can extract 258mpg from a single seat, gasoline powered, 4-wheeled vehicle, why can't Elio attain the estimated 84mpg?
There seems to be mucho problemo with Elio attaining their estimated 84mpg. To date, there hasn't been any real world fuel economy numbers released, which doesn't bode well. The economy numbers tallied by the prototypes will be lower than the value estimated for the production vehicles, but accurate numbers can be extrapolated based on anticipated engine and aerodynamic improvements.

You got it KN16. What compared to what? Nothing frome nothing leaves nothing, and that is just about the value of that post. Gotta hand him an E for effort though.
Its not my fault that this forum is not setup like millions of other forums on the internet. When I reply to a thread you should understand what I am talking about. If you don't understand my statement well maybe you need to understand reading comprehension. I guess my issue is I assumed people would be smart enough to understand my response based on the topic of this thread. I didn't know I would have to spell it out, unless you didn't read the thread then its all on you.

The thread creator is basically comparing this VW to the Elio and why the VW is a much better purchase. I figured that was pretty straight forward from his posts on this thread. I didn't think people would need to be told step by step what I was referring to. I guess warning labels were created for a reason.

Why can't a pinto reach 200mph? When you say look at sample A and why can't sample B attain something close you are still drawing a comparison. If you said hey sample A gets 258mpg I wish sample B could get somewhere near that, well then that's a statement, not a comparison.

Now, the reason why that VW can attain that mileage is due to a large number of factors, size, shape (Aerodynamics), weight capacity, we can go on and on. Once you make even minor changes to anyone of those it can drastically change your mileage. Complaining or making issue with the fact that this vehicle (Elio) may or may not be able to achieve its stated 84mpg is, in my view, ridiculous. What is the current average MPG on factory built cars? 30? 35? Even if this gets 70mpg and still only costs 6,800 you still won't find a better deal. If you want better buy a moped.

Please quote where I indicated I wished the Elio would attain 'somewhere near' 258mpg. I've never typed anything of the sort; unless you're suggesting 84 is 'somewhere near' 258. I can tell you that an m/z84 is nowhere near an m/z258 when interpreting gc/ms, lc/ms, ms/ms, ms^n, ams, or ICP mass spec spectra. I'm sure there are many other applications where 84 is nowhere near 258.

Sorry, a moped just isn't fast or quick enough. If it has two wheels and doesn't achieve triple digits in the low 5's, it's very unlikely I'd ride it, let alone own it.

And as a side note, a Pinto could very easily reach 200mph. There are many ways to achieve that goal. The trick is making sure there's no one tailgating you when you hit the brakes.

I'd have to say that at 200mph there's a very good chance that noone is tailgating you, unless you're at a track :)
