Oh man, that makes me think. A really good kit would be an Edison2 FE upgrade. That side opening could then be completely closed, the look improved greatly and the MPG would go up by maybe as much as 15%?, or around 96mpg. Would that be worth a $2K upgrade(my estimate)? Maybe Edison could do a kit cheaper than that. I'll write the suggestion to them at some point.

Yep that's it. I hoping a FWD version is possible. Anyway, I'm always good for a Quick lob over the cliff to test new wings out. I sent that letter off just now.

This is very off the wall, on the subject of the Elio, which is (hopefully) going into production next year.
Wouldn't it be possible to upgrade the Elio suspension to an Edison2 front end, in a front wheel drive configuration?
If it is, would a kit be possible for under $2k-$3k, including a panel to close the excess open area on the body?
I'm guessing such a kit could increase the Elio MPG from 5 to 15%, moving from 84 mpg to as much as 97mpg. In one category of buyers (45min commute), their cost analysis identifies each mpg as worth $400 in initial investment, 13mpg = $5200 in the view of pure financial decisions.
Elio Motors is licensing/contracting accessories upgrades. I'd love to see such an upgrade available and included in the sales financing. And as a long haul buyer (1 hour commute) I could opt for that since on the balance it would save me money monthly.
Just the 'Green credentials' aspect of the SmartCar was worth about 45% of their sales (10k Units/Year => 4500units) when the price was around $30K, back in the days when I researched that (independently). Certainly this is a 'Green Credentials' upgrade.
Your upgrade would also be enticing to style, sport and luxury market segments.
It would be very good press to 'segway' into that right now, embedding the idea early on. Elio will NOT modify the base model but have committed strongly to support product options by third parties.

I was backing up some files today and ran across these old photos. I think it was in 2015 when these pictures were taken. I do know this event was at a PEP Boys store with a repair facility, as this was where I was supposed to get my Elio serviced.

I look at pictures like these and don't know if I should cry or scream! What a damn shame it is. Just think how much we could all be saving each month now that gas has hit over five bucks a gallon. I'll bet there are thousands of people who dismissed the idea of an Elio who now wish they could buy one.

Just this morning Google Photos 'reminded' me that I first saw the P4 on this date in 2014, at Woodfield Mall. I can't believe it's been 8 years.

Many of the people that supported the Elio to save on the cost of gas or dismissed the Elio concept‘s marketing have either purchased or shifted their interest to EVs. Elio is now marketing the EVElio.

This is what spiked my interest interest back in 2008, but in reality I thought the marketing targets were impossible, so I followed with cautious interest, putting down a $100 refundable reservation deposit, only after they announced access to a manufacturing plant. I assumed if Elio Motors actually crossed the production finish line, the MSRP would likely be in the $15-20K range…….still a good Price point for many. Heck, the Elio’s new virtual engine would have cost $4-5K In the ULTRA LOW PRICED UNDER $7500 MSRP. Impossible.

just read where TVA has requested folks to cut back on their electricity consumption temporarily. Asking folks to not use dryers, turn off lights, raise the thermostats, etc. TVA has 10 million customers in 7 states.

I wonder if power companies are preparing for the additional power usage by vehicles ——- or is that going to be another mess waiting in the bushes for us?

Imagine the energy used to drill, pump, process, produce, tanker ship, tanker truck deliver, and pump a gallon of gas into our cars that is only about 30% efficient. I doubt there will be a mess, Most EV owners charge overnight - non-peak hours, many have solar, with sustainable power sources on the rise. The current issue appears to be somewhat of a shortage of pubic charging station locations with expansion plans being implemented as we speak. After my long time skepticism of EVs, owning/driving an EV for 2 years, I’ve found nothing to dislike. With that said, I’ll have to wait longer for an electric BEX.

About EV's and AC sourced power....
Even with the super expansion of housing around here in AZ, the utilities are silently keeping up. They love the money, so for them, 'the more the merrier'. And with expansion, investment is pretty easy for them. EV's? They tightly monitor sales etc.

Somewhere that stupid politics have interfered (like both CA and TX), may have more of a problem, a grid problem, that may sneak up. The grid IS the issue, not the max capacity at projected loads. And the grid, by sharing, is what offsets what is unexpected on short notice. I don't even think storage capacity itself will be allowed to become an issue.

So yes, there will be some messiness around unexpected things, like weather, peak temps and seasonal crossover dates changing. No mater what is done with EV's. Homes with AC seem more threatening in that way than EV's.

The only caviot would be if some emergent issue forced everyone to use thier EV over thier ICE where they own both. And that is not all that common.
Oops, there is one, the sudden rise of gas has pushed some into switching to EV. But have we had a EV spike in use causing an issue? Nope.

I just wish they would not keep trying to monopolize by making it harder to put solar on your own roof. As far as heat-AC-Grid issues combined, that offsets it alot.
