Whoa!!! Where did you hear about a break in period. I've always heard 'Break in a new car/bike at the speed you intend to drive/ride them'. I have searched the forum and found only one mention of beak in, does Elio advise a break in period, if so I may need to extend my time to ride home.

Someone posed the question earlier in this thread (I think) asking if there was a break in period. It hadn't really crossed my mind until the question was asked.

I was just saying that if true, this would be a non-starter for me doing the factory pick up. :D

NO STOMPING!!!

I have revoked ALL stomping privileges for you!

Now sit in the corner and think about your Elio!
Guess I'll be looking forward to a Stomping After Revocation ticket then...

I've never broken anything in other than the way I intend to use it.

If needed, I'll do a break in oil change part way home.

Factory pickup

My trip is 833 miles.

I plan to pickup my ELIO at the factory, pending weather in the north.

The first 500 miles is a mix of 2 lane and a little highway. After that it is all highway.

It will be a 2 day trip.

Day 1: Pickup my Elio.

Do a couple of laps of the factory area to check everything. Try parallel parking and backing into a parking place, straight.

Hit the road.

Drive to just south of St Louis, stopping late in the afternoon at Pep Boys for an oil change.

This should be 400 – 500 miles.

Day2: Mostly highway miles.

Get an early start and get around St Louis.

After that it is all highway back to the Chicago area and home.

Brake-in plan. (This is my system and has served me well over the years.)

Don’t over rev.

Watch the Temperature, Don’t over heat.

Work the Rpm’s up and down. Try not to stay at a constant RPM.

On long runs take your foot off the gas every few minutes. This unloads the engine and allows more oil to flow into areas that it can’t get to when the engine is pulling. The oil also helps keep any hot spots cooler.

In my opinion the first oil change is the most important that the engine will ever see. It cleans out any particles from manufacturing and during the brake-in.

much more complex than my plan, even if it's 16 months away.
pick up at factory. drive NW on I-20 to Marshall , TX stop for first oil change. (25 miles)
Keep going NW I-20 for 47 miles to just outside of Tyler, stop for BBQ dinner at the Texas smokehouse.
keep going 100 more miles to Arlington., Home. next day take it in for another oil change. (200 miles).
