considerable research that has had me leaning in one direction, then another, then yet another .... our search has been accelerated by our pending trip to South Dakota for the summer .... while we've not found a perfect portable smoker that has been clearly the best for us in all areas, we have narrowed the field and anticipate swallowing hard, then placing an order over the weekend

well, we our search has come full circle .... I just placed an order for a "Green Mountain Davy Crockett Sense Mate Electric Wi-Fi Control Foldable Portable Wood Pellet Tailgating Grill with Meat Probe, Black" ====> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078RXH95C?psc=1&smid=A35UO8G1Y5J0RU&ref_=chk_typ_imgToDp ....

some of its features that were important to us are :

the pellet bin is a separate box from the rest of the grill/smoker .... I don't want another with the pellet bin under the same lid like the one in our Traveler

I like the WiFi control system

the folding legs that become a carrying handle will help me move it around

with the legs extended. the height of the grilling surface allows the person doing the cooking to do so while seated

it fit our price range

it has solid positive reviews on every platform we found

we ordered several extras like a weather cover, pizza oven and winter heat jacket .... per Amazon things should start arriving tomorrow and everything should be here within the next week

I was contacted by a friend who is looking for his first portable smoker/grill who asked why the above was important to me .... the control panel and access to fan/auger motors are mounted in the pellet bin in our new Green Mountain Grill (GMG) .... this video ====>
gives a quick look at one such advantage of having a separate, easily removable pellet bin .... while I can't speak from a solid info base I'm pretty sure that this is a fairly standard feature from manufactures

a few more odds & ends arrived ... the biggest physically is the grill cover .... only 3 items are yet to be delivered .... 2 of the 3 are among the most important, the grill itself left Chicago, IL yesterday at 10:07 PM .... current location unknown .... the replacement Pizza Oven got to the Amazon facility in Trenton, New Jersey at 6:18 AM this morning .... the 3-pack of Reusable Non-Stick Grill Mats has yet to be shipped .... with any luck the grill and pizza oven may arrive here late this week

I'm looking forward to what you make with this smoker. One thing I have here at home is a PK Grill. Great for BBQ and smoking. I like it as it's cast aluminum, the base is aluminum, the fasteners are stainless. Plus the original version (which I have ) is made in the USA (Arkansas). It's easy to clean and best part, no rust (except for the grills which are steel but you can buy stainless versions). It isn't cheap (about double for what I originally paid) but a simple 1950's design still works today. Plus, if you check flea markets or garage sales, you might find one from the 50's and it's pretty much the same as the one I have listed.

well, its here .... we've already burned it in ... tomorrow morning our plan is to burn it with the pizza oven installed .... assembling the grill was no problem .... getting the WiFi hooked up has already taken three calls to customer service .... on the plus side, all of the service folks have been a pleasure to work with

well, those of us old enough to remember watching HEE HAW will probably recall the line "if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all" .... went out this morning to burn-in pizza oven that fits into our new Davy Crockett Smoker .... ran the startup sequence 3 times and when the internal temp would reach about 100 degrees, she'd shut down .... call Green Mountain customer service ... after answering several diagnostic questions I put my phone on speaker and started the grill .... with their Rep listening she got up 148 and shut down .... he didn't like the sound of the auger or fan .... a single unit with and emailed How To video and all hardware needed to replace the parts he feels are bad should be leaving the west coast later today .... he said it could take up to 10 days to get here ... till then our grill will be sitting under a cover in the garage

Trager, ASMOKE, Traveler and the other portable camping smoker grills I know of are wired for 110 or 120 AC .... our GMG Davy Crockett is wired for 12V .... it comes with a standard110 power cord that runs into a gizmo the turns it into 12V, a second 12V power cord with male cigarette lighter plugs on both ends, and third power cord with alligator clips on one end and a female cigarette lighter plug on the other.... for a smoker marketed to use camping, that makes a good deal of sense
