Coincidentally, this was announced yesterday:
https://ww.electrek.co/2019/11/26/lincoln-will-build-an-electric-suv-based-on-rivians-chassis/
Knowing how the traditional car companies work, the F150 Electric will be a rebodied Rivian and whatever plans they had for it just got pushed into a tighter timeline. When the cybertruck was unveiled, I bet Ford was laughing but after a day, there was an emergency meeting with Rivian.

As for GM, I expect they will come late to the party with some hodge podge electric truck and probably was on the phone with Lordstown Motors to see if they could throw a Chevy body on their truck (as soon as Lordstown actually has an actual working prototype).

Since Lordstown will be out in a year, they might be the first to market. Plus they will have 4 in wheel motors. They are taking $1K deposits too: https://lordstownmotors.com/
Hope GM does a better job with the electric car motors than they did with car diesels

A neighbor years ago worked at a GM dealer and got a Cutlass diesel for free (the customer had enough as the engine went south once again). It was in great condition (because it spent most of the time in the shop). This guy brought it home and pulled the engine out and took it apart. What happened was the exhaust seats fell out of the head. GM took cast iron heads and put hardened seats in it and they obviously didn't do it right. So it got new seats and they were pinned into the head. Then the injection pump drive was some sort of weird gear configuration and someone had a solution for that. Once he got the engine back together, he put a few hundred thousand miles on it over the next 25 years. You could tell, it was a typical GM way of doing things. They probably made a great diesel in R&D but once accounting seen the tab, they cheapened it up.

A ford Escort diesel was nothing to write home about either. In typical Ford fashion, they just bought one from Mazda and threw it in there.

For whatever reason the single and dual motor versions are coming out first. It could still take 5 years, however ;)

I am also aware of a few people that have gone the refund route and gone with the Tri-motor Cybertruck. Range is king when you plan to tow.
We're all aware it's just in the prototype stage but I hope Tesla makes the side mirrors automatically pops up and recess when not in use ( for those "old school" like me) who does not want side cameras to keep that streamlined profile. There's also concerns about how the CYBERTRUCK will handle frontal or rear collision because it's built like a tank I don't think "crumple zone" wasn't put in the equation just yet. We've got years to talk about this until someone on here get their hands on the production version but this is a very good distraction while waiting for ELIO, SOLO or FUV!

I kind of wish they wait till its closer to being out and in final form before showing it off. Its a bit like the Elio, "here is what you want, BUT you can't really have it". I also hope it stays pretty much as is, least in looks and function. (6.5 bed, electric hookups, roll cover bed that can be stood on, ability to be shot at with a 9 mm handgun or someone taking a sledge hammer to it, and its "ugliness").

Tesla has been setting the standard for crash safety. I have a feeling that with their previous successes, they know a thing or two about how to make it safe. Plus, for crash safety, you can't make a car or truck built like a brick. You have to make it crush because when they put them crash test dummies in there, the human body can only take so much and thus why you need crushability. Tesla is up to speed on what it takes.

As for side mirrors and rear view mirrors, they are on the way out. In 10 years it'll all be cameras and will give you better coverage over any mirror.

Also, you forgot Sondors. They seem to be in that limbo mode too. I read FUV delivered 21 units. So they are trickling out.

The uglier the better! The CYBERTRUCK is not about looking pretty but MEAN! ☠ Remember the time you bought your first brand new car/truck? How you tried to park away from the rest in a parking lot to avoid scratches and dings???? Well, those days are over with the CYBERTRUCK!
P.s. If it wasn't EV, I'd say heck put a prop in it so it can traverse waterways too!
