Very few new car engines require the buyer follow a break in procedure anymore. The reason for this is that engines are fully assembled, run through a break in procedure, and load tested on an engine dyno before they leave the engine assembly area of the factory. The engines even essentially receive an oil change before installation as on the engine dyno a different break in oil is often used which is essentially pumped through the engine and captured for recycling on the other end. All this allows the manufacturer to ensure that the engine is broken in properly and promptly removes any metal shavings or other contaminants which may be in the engine after the assembly and break in process.

As the Shreveport plant had an engine assembly area used by GM/Comau nearly all the proper equipment to run this kind of break in procedure should already be in the plant and just needs to be reconfigured for the IAV engine.

Way back in the early 70's in high school shop our lift had a rolling tire platform for the front tires as you pulled up on the lift the front wheels dropped down onto this platform then the whole platform rolled forward on its own set of tracks. My current lift has a spot on the inside for a tool tray to roll on. Might be fairly easy to adapt some kind of rolling platform to go in there for the back tire. I kind of have something similar now for a jack. I will make it work!

I have the same kind of lift and I;m sure I can jimmy rig it to lift this car but I;m going to use my lift to keep my MGA up in the air and I will park te Elio on the lower area.

It is standard auto industry practice to charge a destination charge even when you pick up at a factory in the USA however we do not know if Elio Motors will stick with that practice or do something different. How this will work has been the focus of much discussion on this thread and others.

Personally I am hopeful that even if EM decides to stick with charging everyone the equalized destination charge they would at least give those buyers who choose the factory delivery option some nice extra perks. Some ideas which have been mentioned by Elio Motors, however are not guaranteed at this point, include access to an Elio Museum at the plant, a factory tour which could possibly even include the chance to see your Elio being assembled, airport shuttle service, and a deal with a local hotel/casino to provide two nights of lodging (night before and night after you take a factory tour and take possession of your new Elio vehicle).

Now that would be a really great plan for those of us planning on flying down for factory pick-up, even if we had to pay for the hotel reservation ourselves (at a reduced rate for the room)

Then I'm taking the long way back to California, visiting friends along the way. All it takes is a plane ride from Los Angeles to Dallas and then a commuter flight to Shreveport. I've been planning this for nearly a year!

Should be a very nice trip. Have Ya calculated yet, how many times Ya might need to stop to refuel your Elio? Reckon it will cheaper to drive back than to fly here?

Elio told me today that if we had a 1000 all in that we are invited to watch our cars completed and there would be no shipping. My only problem is it will cost me the same to get there than they would charge for shipping

So what you are saying is that it will cost the same amount of money to have your Elio shipped to your home...

As... To you spending two nights and three days at a Casino near the plant, paid by Elio Motors, taking a tour of the plant on the second day, to see your personal Elio being built... and maybe being the "one" who drives it out of the factory/plant, then taking it home on the third day after they installed all your personal options upgrades... Just how many times do you get to do that in your life time?...

I am retired (65) and on fixed low income... So I will never be able to buy a new vehicle off a factory floor... This will be my only chance in my life time... So damn straight! I will be going on the plant tour... with smiles...

These tour options of Elio Motors plant and Casino stay, are not set in stone yet, these are all just rumors ... just one's we all hope will come true...

Taking the Elio Motors Adventure Tour.... this event has never happen before in history... and I am not just talking about the tour, if it is offered at all...

"The Event", is where over 30,000 people believed in a new Company, and are willing to wait, for a new low cost vehicle to be made for them... So new they had to make a whole new classification of vehicle for it... Autocycle...

I'm just saying... I am going on the tour if offered...

These pipe dreams are the comments made by Paul Elio in different interviews, he has made over the last year... to be fair he does state that he is working on getting these "Perks" for the people who placed money down in advance, ( us ) and if they wanted to pick up their Elio at the plant... he also wants no delivery charge for pick up at plant... We will see who wins...

I believe goofyone also stated that there maybe, a option to stay at a local Casino with Elio Motors picking up the tab.. if you show a one way " airfare " ticket at the Casino desk and have them contact Elio Motors to get the plant tour....

Again, we have to wait and see...
