IIRC the key number was 125k/year in order to meet the economies of scale they need to hit the target price. Yes, that's still a lot of vehicles. They 250k/year was what I think they said they could get out of the production line running full tilt with two shifts. An obvious goal, but not required.
You bring up a good point. I can't find anything where Elio has stated any production number at all and nothing of what they need to do as a minimal number. They give what the cost of an Elio was back in August but nothing as to if they only need to make one or a million. It would be helpful if Elio stated what numbers they need to run to get a certain percentage profit. I'd like to see that breakdown where 125K is what they need and if they hit 250K, what that would be. If you have that info, I'd think it would really be helpful.

However, the crowd that I find myself running with every day, the Seattle moto-commuting crowd, will fall over themselves for the Arcimoto.
I think the Arcimoto, and the Solo, will be hits with certain demographics of people. They will be great Urban commuters. SRKs mainly for people that don't need to do any highway driving. Acceptance of either one (or both!) will be great for the three-wheeler crowd overall. More three-wheelers is great for all.

Arcimoto will sell well in warm coastal areas and especially in retirement communities. Then they will do OK in urban areas but that they really need to do is work out a deal like they have in Europe for urban areas. For example in Paris, they have electric car sharing with things that look like a smart car. It's a service that's called, Autolib. Honestly, it works well when you need to get from point A to B. Park it, then get another to go from B to A. They are all electric and you park them at a dedicated charging station right on the street. It's a great service and Arcimoto could do the same. In Shanghai you can either share a pedal bike, electric scooter or electric car. Both systems work well with the rest of the public transportation.

For here in the US, I have my doubts because in Asia and Europe, they are marching forward with things like this and I suspect that we might be better with an Elio, then switch over to an Arcimoto when we get to an urban area for sharing. Maybe Elio needs to do car sharing out in smaller areas. That might be a good idea for Elio. Work out a deal with one of the car sharing programs here in the US.

I think people are ignoring the NEV market with the SRK, not that the SRK could qualify as an NEV, but there would definitely be some cross shopping there. And NEVs are gaining in popularity, so the acceptance of these types of configurations on the road is already broadening.

I would also like to point out that many police forces use ATV/UTV/NEV equipment that the SRK could easily replace, and the 100+ mile version would easily handle daily requirements. Beach enforcement, especially, seems like the SRK would suit well.

You bring up a number of good points. I agree.

They've also stated that AWD may be an option available sometime in the future.
Check out the responses. A fifteen year battery warranty. WHO DOES THAT?

Seems like a lot of premature excitement building on Facebook with no track tested SONDORS and or test drive opportunities. Sounds reminiscent of Chip Stempeck’s Elio marketing strategy to the President of the Skeptics Club of America. Twin in hub front wheel drive motors in the production vehicle at the original anticipated $10K single rear wheel drive prototype?

Arcimoto and EMV did their concept R&D and testing up to and including the production model vehicles with personal and private VC angel investor funding. Be careful out there.
