I'm not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but I was poking through the web resources on the configurator site and came across this image:
Looks like these are the renderings that are currently getting used for the dash
I posted this on Facebook, but I'll share here as well.
I'm still not a fan of the Elgin design, but here is my version of best-case scenario regarding readability.
Note that as the text gets bigger, you get fewer increments. I'm using as large of a vertical space as seems reasonable and limit...
I'm wondering if/when they'll cut it off as far as "first year reservations".
On one hand, taking more reservations is always good - on the other hand, saying "we've sold out the first year of production" is also good.
...But that could be a pretty big number with the scale production numbers...
...what?
The target profit is $1000 per vehicle, which means it costs $5800 to make, and they sell it for $6800 - their cost is covered and there is 1k extra.
What they need is enough cash that they can operate at the scale where they can actually make a vehicle for $5800. To do that requires...
The autoignition temperature of gasoline is ~530F, the temperature of the exhaust system depends on the car, but based on the size of the engine and the fact that the exhaust port is about as far away from the engine as possible, I wouldn't be super worried about it being a problem.
My car is rated at 36 MPG highway, I typically get around 32 at the speeds/conditions I'm traveling - that's around 89% of rated highway efficiency.
If that value scales properly with the Elio at their quoted MPG, that would put me at 74.6 MPG average.
I commute about 80 miles per day or 400...
I would be more worried about the heat and the paint, but we'll just have to see
Shame they didn't show the driver's side in the renders, it looks like the driver window goes quite far back now, I'm wondering if the door does as well. That would make it easier to cram folks into the back seat...
Even if they're mass produced, they don't have to have the same options installed afterward. I'm hoping they take the opportunity to create several potential loadouts rather than have them all be identical. It would give them an opportunity to test some of the options if nothing else.
Given that they have stated that you'll have to pick your options 2 months ahead of time - my guess is that most early adopters won't have the option to test drive before selecting. I hope they take advantage of the many prototypes by not making them identical so that people can get a sense of...

If they manage to trot out a production-equivalent P5, I think it will be a pretty big deal. Most of the frequent and valid criticisms of Elio are centered around having never actually built one of the vehicles they're marketing (engine, mpg figures, crash testing, etc). At least the first two...
In order to turn a profit and hit the projected price point, they need to purchase and produce in bulk and at significant speed.
The funds they need yet to get started are to finish development, set up the assembly line, hire and train employees, purchase inventory, and actually build the...
Don't see this posted anywhere on here yet. Paul was a little awkward as usual, but I thought he handled it well. Good information and came off relatively confident with good answers for most of the questions and concerns.
I commute 80 miles a day in a 30mpg car.
I used to have a motorcycle, but I didn't ride it much as the weather can differ quite a bit between where I live and work - planning that was irritating. I miss having a 'toy' vehicle, but it really has to be somewhat practical.
The Elio to me is a toy...
