Minimum wage hasn't been adjusted to keep up with inflation and the huge profits of the big business (Walmart, McDonalds) that low wage earners (shrinking middleclass) work for. There are some people that simply will be forced to work in the service industry (to support the families primary wage earner) and saying "Fries with that" not because they want too because growing up they may have not had the same positive family environment/support and educational opportunities we had as kids.

Frankly, I respect the people who provide those services. It's a hard days work and I know because I've been there as I worked up the food chain. Most can't afford to put gas in a car they can't afford to buy to get to that minimum wage job that barely pays rent and puts food on the table when company profits are at all time highs.

I'm hoping for those 1500 Shreveport residents to land those promised high paying jobs building our Elio's.

I too am hoping those 1500 jobs start up in Shreveport.
But that doesn't change the fact that "minimum wage" was never designed or intended to support a family of four as some seem to think. It was intended as a starting place and a place for high school students working part time.
Maybe our problem is that too many good jobs have been shipped overseas and we no longer value the work of skilled craftsmen and no longer teach classes like wood shop, metal shop, auto mechanics, and other real skills because all of the people we put in office are shysters who think only things like degrees in law, politics, and Business Administration mean anything.
Try finding a good fabricator / welder when you need a custom part built. When was the last time you saw a night school class in welding? Blame the schools for the lack of real ability, not the businesses who have to dumb down the jobs for the workforce that is available.

There are a lot of well paying trade jobs available in our country. First, you have to go to school to learn the trade. Second, you have to gain some experience in the trade to secure one of those well paying jobs. And lastly, you may have to move to where the jobs are available.

Those motivated will succeed. Those waiting for everything to be provided for them will continue to ask " do you want fries."

agree .... those motivated to do what is necessary over time to succeed have the opportunity to do so .... those who aren't can always find an excuse for not succeeding

1.6 million Americans or less than 2% of the total workforce earned exactly the prevailing federal minimum wage .About 50 percent of them are between the ages of 16 and 24 years old. Summer jobs etc. Seems like a weak business plan and even less a reason for Socialism. .

"Do you want fries" is a question... questions end in "question marks." (ie:?)
